Gaithersburg Adopts Montgomery County Pesticide Law
On August 17, the Mayor and City Council adopted the Montgomery County Pesticide Law, allowing only organic or minimum-risk pesticides for use on lawns, playgrounds, mulched recreation areas, and childcare facilities. While the law does not ban the sale of any pesticides, it does regulate what can be applied. The ordinance takes effect on December 1, 2020. Last May, the City adopted a policy for pesticide application on its municipal properties that aligns with and expands upon the goals of the County ordinance. The City also expanded the scope of its Rainscapes Reward program to include soil test rebates to further promote organic lawn care. Learn more about these programs here.
