Just Reflecting On Those Frightening Early Days Of The Pandemic
Some thoughts and advice from Barbara Todaro...
This pandemic has not ended, but we have learned how to live with it. It’s called survival, and the virus calls the shots. We needed to acquire a method of working around the virus, while we sheltered in place.
With any type of change, stress is a resulting factor. With stress, bad habits are easily generated, and the most convenient, legal and enjoyable obsession is eating. Stressful eating requires nothing other than a grocery store, and that’s a weekly visit made by everyone.
Sheltering in Place while restricted from eating is worse than solitary confinement for most. I read in several sources that the average weight gain during that 3 month period of total shut down was 10 pounds a month. Thirty pounds is a great start on the journey to obesity.
To offset that desire to eat, creating a rigid exercise program to be executed every morning is what I did. I have a hex bar and some metal plates in my basement. I decided to do 100 squats with a total weight of 65 pounds every day for 3 months.
That kept me in shape, although it was difficult for the first several days. My hamstrings and glutes were screaming at me!!! I used that same hex bar weighing 65 pounds to do 100 shoulder shrugs. Upper body and lower body were toned every day. Did I mention, I did take Sunday off!!
Through 3 months of ordering groceries to be delivered and making every purchase for other items using Amazon, I survived it. I’m so thankful for Amazon Prime and thankful for being able to grocery shop now according to the “new normal.”
Just a few thoughts for the moment while watching the heavy rainfall….
