Do You Blog In Other Languages! ¿Tienes blog en otros idiomas

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Mike McCann - Broker, Mach1 Realty Farm & Commercial Land Broker-Auctioneer Serving Nebraska

I have often wondered if blogging in Spanish would be a good idea for me.  We have a large Spanish speaking population in central Nebraska and many have relocated here over the past 30 years. Many are bilingual but some of the older folks are mostly Spanish speaking.

The reason I am wondering is recently I have been contacted in Spanish mulitple times.Mike McCann Nebraska Real Estate Broker Mach1 Realty

The majority are from Mexico and they want to be called Mexican...not Hispanic.

One thing I have noticed for years is we have very few Spanish speaking real estate agents.

Now, while my daughter has studied in Lima, Peru and has many years (over a decade) of Spanish under her belt...I have only a few words.

You maybe wondering why am I wondering?

I received this via Messenger recently from an online ad: "Me interesa este artículo".

I am able to tell that the person is interested in a home I listed for sale.  I know a few things such as where he is from and his age just from his social media.  I answered him in English because he had a few posts where it appeared he replied in English.

So what I know is this:

He is interested in the home...and if he has cash or can qualify...I am interested in selling it to him.

Not sure if the language barrier is real or not as my daughter will attest many Spanish speaking people also speak English...and she overhears conversations that...let's say the folks are surprised when she answers them in Spanish.

This is not the first time I have had this situation and I wonder...am I missing a huge market? Are many of us missing a large market?

My daughter is a CPA and is a Senior Auditor for a world wide Accounting firm.  She has been told that they will be working remotely until next year except in rare cases...so it appears she may bunk with us for the winter as it is silly for her to be 200 miles from us and 240 miles from her boyfriend just so she can work from her apartment. She has to give notice by Monday.

SO maybe...just maybe...I can coerce her into translating some articles for me and I can see if there is an untapped local Buyer pool not being marketed to.

Let me know if you already are many steps ahead of me and how you did it!!  Until then...

hasta luego

Hi Mike we also have a large group of Spanish speaking people in our area.  I used to speak Spanish fluently but that has been many years ago.  I still can understand some but I would not be comfortable doing contracts in Spanish (I'd bring in an agent could). But, it is funny when Latino's are talking and I answer them in Spanish!  Oh....hables espanol?  A little!!

Hi Mike- well....I was born in Houston and my father who was Chinese was born in AZ. He spoke fluent Spanish and used to help translate for some of the Cubans who relocated to Houston. Unfortunately, he did not teach me to speak Spanish or Chinese. The most I can do is order one more beer in Spanish.

What about asking your potential client if having someone's your office who could speak Spanish would be a big plus.

Mike my take is if you do not speak the language do not target buyers in their language, you are misleading them and they find out you do not speak the language you just lost credibility.. just my two cents... on a side note I speak German and Hungarian but I do not target the clients in their language... I tried it is not worth the effort, Endre

While I agree that speaking additional languages is a huge plus for any business these days, Mike McCann - Nebraska Farm Land Broker ... I don't have that ability personally.  I do however have the advantage of having a lender in my office that speaks fluent Spanish ... and others within the company that can help with other language needs, should they arise.  I'm more than willing/happy to reach out to them for assistance for my client's behalf.

That said ... I do assume you meant any language other than Pig Latin??  I speak fluent 3 Stooges ...  www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q88huvvqnto

Thank you for the advice, all!!  Adding an agent is not as easy as it sounds in central Nebraska, especially Spanish speaking.

Good morning Mike McCann - Nebraska Farm Land Broker - it is certainly worth a try to see.  If so learning more Spanish might be in order.

Personally, I always felt like it was difficult enough to explain and navigate contracts in the language that was primary to my client(s) and me.  I would NEVER work with someone who didn't speak English fluently. I referred those out.
