1. Strengths Finder

Here's a novel concept (pun intended)!  When driving back from one of our recent road trips Suzanne and I listened to the audio version of "Now, Discover Your Strengths" by Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton published in 2001.

Planning to take the on-line evaluation that accompanied the audio CDs, I found that "StrengthsFinder 2.0" by Tom Rath had just been published, and with it came the new and vastly improved on-line evaluation.

The book can be purchased at local bookstores - cover price $19.95 - or on-line through Amazon or Barnes & Noble for around $12.00.

So what does it do?  Well, each copy of this book comes with a sealed envelope in the back of the book containing a unique on-line evaluation code.  This code can be used once, and once only.  Once you have your code in hand, visit the StrengthsFinder website.

Click "Learn more about 2.0"

Click "Sign In"

Under "New User?" Click "Click To Register"

Enter your code on the next page, click continue, and you're on your way to discovering your top five Strengths out of a group of thirty four. You'll go through an on-line evaluation which takes an average of 35 minutes they claim, those I have spoken with say it's more like 15-25 minutes.

At the end of the evaluation you will be presented with your results - your top five Strengths along with your personalized guide,  and Action Plan creator.  For those of you who have taken a DISC evaluation - think DISC on steroids.  Not only does this nifty tool help you identify your top strengths, it provides very specific suggestions on how to leverage those strengths to help you become more successful!

My Top 5

  1. Ideation (Part 2 of the series)
  2. Analytical (Part 3 of the series)
  3. Strategic (Part 4 of the series)
  4. Belief (Part 5 of the series)
  5. Focus (Part 6 of the series)

If you want to know what they mean - you'll have to read the book!  For those of you who have already done this - please feel free to share in the comments what your Top 5 are.  In the next five instalments in the series I'll focus on each of my five strengths, along with how I plan to capitalize on them.  Feel free to join in!

I wonder if the new one came out in an audio book.  It seems like the best way for me to read books these days.
