Do You Put the Same Posts on More Than One Blog?

By
Real Estate Agent with Dockside Realty VA 0225142975

For those with a personal blog, do you put the same posts on Active Rain and also on your other blog?  Being a relatively new blogger, at least I think of myself as a novice on the blogosphere, I do not know the etiquette behind this practice.

Is it permissible?  Is it frowned upon?  Is it a smart move?  Is it a time saver?

Finding it hard to keep up with all the things in my life...see, I am so like you...I am hoping to take some shortcuts.  I have put some of my posts on Active Rain and on my personal blog but I've done it with an uneasy feeling that I might not be doing the "right" thing.

Do you ever copy and paste from one blog to the other?  Or, do you take a post you may have put on Active Rain and changed it somewhat, or shortened it, or deleted/added pictures before putting it on your other blog or the other way around?

Please share what is acceptable and what is not.  What you do and what you would not do.

My understanding is that it does have a significant effect on SEO, esp. on Google. Have I been misled? Thanks for the post!

I do more than that.  I take my blog articles, edit them a little, and then submit them to various real estate newsletters for people to read there also.

Kathleen, I rarely copy and paste, but often post about the same topic - maybe with a slightly different twist.  And sometimes I'll do a series on one and post a summary on the other.  I want people to read both of my blogs, and they often do - and they won't do that if they find duplicate content even once.  Check out my ActiveRain post on Friday the 13th, and then look at the one on www.FocusOnCrofton.com - the 2nd one morphed into things to do in the area, whereas the one on ActiveRain was more about the origins of the superstition.

I write one blog and post it on 3 different sites.  No problem so far and it's working with Google.

I copy from one blog to the next certain posts (not all.) I hear it isn't good for Google, but I am trying to keep three blogs active while running and business and raising two children. Sometimes shortcuts are necessary. It's all my original content so I think it is my choice as to what works best for me.

Kathleen, I double post most of my articles to my outside blog and AR.  My outside blog is ranked on page 1 but many times a post from AR will also appear in the top pages just like Broker Bryant said.  Go for it!

You should be cutting and pasting one blog to another blog such as word press, blog spot.  Saves time, and still gets the same readership.  All you care about is the end result

Kathleen, I am glad you asked this.  I have an outside blog and have read that this was frowned upon?  I spoke with someone about this, not at AR, and they said that the minute people think that they have google figured out for SEO, that will be when it changes.  No one knows.  I don't think it hurts us.  At some point we have to get out there and sell a house or two?  Congrats on your feature.

As long as it is my materials, I'll definitely copy and paste to save some time.  Just won't do it to someone else's writings.

I will admit I haven't read all the comments, but I think part of the answer is it depends why you are blogging, and the audience you are trying to reach.  I don't blog that much, I am not that creative, and takes me a long time.  I tend to blog a bit more here in AR, but I do cut and paste some of the blogs (okay, maybe a lot of my blogs) onto the blog on my web site because it shows as new content on my web site, which I understand is good for page rank.

I have been told that if it is just a couple of web sites, the duplicate content thing is not such a big issue.

Kathleen, Katy, Kat, Kate, Kathy, uuuummm. no. I just don't do any of that. I am doing well to have the time to sell Real Estate, keep house (watch over the maids). compete in makeover2takeover, give my hubby some attention, mow the yard. feed the animals, gas the car, make comments on AR, and occassionally blog and I'm saying goodnight now. Congrats on your feature. You know you are one of my favorites! Later in the rain~Deb

Hi, Kathleen - I don't have time to write unique content for two different blogs... it's sometimes all I can do to maintain this one.  For me I cross post to our wordpress blog and the blog on our website.  I figure it won't help me with Google but at least it's open to different audiences... I hope. :)

Hi Kathleen - What I have started to do when marketing a listing is to make a post in AR with pictures, descriptions, ect and to do a Real Estate show or virtual tour on the property on my other blog. This way you get more exposure and it is two different posts about the same thing.

I cross-post from my other website. I do this for two reasons 1) Every original article has to go through my securities broker/dealers compliance whether it is a general commentary on the local RE market or a detialed explanation of a IRC 1031 TIC; 2)I want the most exposure I can get wit the most productive use of time.

Good luck,

Spencer

I copy my post from my personal blog and add  it to ActiveRain if I feel it pertains. I do this to save time. I post to my personal BLOG almost daily, add in 1x a week to ActiveRain, that is a lot time spent. I do it as a time management tactic.

Good luck... Have fun blogging.
