Just the other day I was out driving and suddenly I noticed a Newbie in my neighborhood.  Of course, I did not keep driving.  I put my car in park, hit the hazard light button, put my window down, and began to snap pictures.Scarecrow

Some Newbies may be shy but not this guy.  After the first shot, he called out for me to zoom in even closer.  I did.  He really did not seem to mind that I got up close and personal with my camera.

Spotsylvania Scarecrow

Hopefully you will enjoy my new friend as much as I do.  I like folks with a colorful life and if this one's personality is anything like his wardrobe he must be fun.  What I wouldn't give for that yellow hat.

When I got up the nerve to ask him his name (of course I was talking to the back of his head) he mumbled something like, Stanley - the Spotsylvania Scarecrow.

I told him my name and meant to tuck my business card in his pocket but felt a bit pushy.  Perhaps when I go back and talk with him face to face.

I am not recommending that you take your eyes off the road but if you do occasionally, you never know who you might get to meet.

While out driving if you spot him standing in his cornfield you will know that a few miles down the road you can pull into my driveway for a visit.

Very cute, but almost looks like he is splattered with blood.  He's a nice new neighbor...right?

He should help with the birds.

Hi Ginger...If I can ever get him to turn around I'll be able to get a frontal of him.

Happy it made you smile.

Hi Chris...Don't worry.  He told me he had just finished painting the barn 'barn red'.

Cheers,

Hi Carol...I was trying to figure out if he was going to keep those birds away or would they be attracted by that terrific red tie and his yellow hat.

Kate, can I call you Kate? What a great neighbor you have there.

I like the way he is "outstanding in his field"  yuk yuk

You made me smile - I've always wanted a scarecrow

I think I might just add one to my garden, thanks to you.

I certainly have a few hats and some clothes with paint on them - just need a stake and

 a dress rehearsal!!!

Kathleen, That is too cute, do people still use scarecrows?  I had to wonder if he wanted a heart :)

Hi Bonnie...Yes to Kate.

You may even want a female scarecrow just for kicks.  Either way, be sure to take pictures and share them with us.

Cheers,

Kathleen

Hi Carole...Oh, yes.  We do have scarecrows out here.  In fact we had one in our front yard at one time.  We are country!

Believe me, he stole some of my heart.

Believe it or not we still have scarecrows in Prince William County and Fairfax County.  Most people do not think we still have farmland

Hi Karen...I believe it having lived up that way.  However, they are getting scarce even out here in the country.  I thought this one especially dapper with that smart yellow hat and the neat red 'tie'.

Cheers,

Kathleen

I remember building scarecorws with my family as a very young child in Wisconsin. We built a mom, dad, & kid one. They sat in the front yard for the fall. It was so much fun! You have stirred some forgotten memories with this post! Thanks!

Kathleen - Stanley looks like the quiet type. I can't imagine he'll be much of a troublemaker.
