Have you heard of Constitution Day? How about Constitution Week?
It started decades back in 1952, when President Harry Truman and the U.S. Congress first designated September 17 as "Citizenship Day."
Four years later, they created and proclaimed the first
"Constitution Week".
In 1787, the U.S. Constitution was completed, signed and approved on September 17. That's why Citizenship Day is also known as Constitution Day.
The purpose of Citizenship Day/Constitution Day is to celebrate and recognize people who have successfully become American citizens during that year.
Constitution Week is intended to celebrate the birth of American freedom afforded through the US Constitution, and the legal rights of both born and naturalized US citizens.
