A Big By-Prooduct of Blogging

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Masters

Blogging for me is somthing that I do when I have the time. It's just like with our buyers and sellers, it comes in spurts.  This is something I do when I have the time and inclination.  Last night it was dinner with a group of eight.  Social networking.  Fall is almost here and our social calendar will pick up.  Later nights and less time to blog.                                                                                                                                                                                                           I I find the content in the blogsite a wonderful way to "interview" agents for the next referral.  I am amazed at how easy it is to zero in on a person's experience, intellect, ehthusiasm and value system by reading their musings.  Even the agent's attention to detail can be determined.  There are certain parts of the country that I know right now, my client will, "enjoy working with that agent".  With the map, if I have a need for an agent in Iowa, where I do not have a Realtor contact, I might start with reading someone from Iowa's postings to see if I am comfortable with their thought process.  Even their language, grammar, punctuation and sense of humor will come through.  Next, I might look at their designations and experience and if all of that looks good, I will then pick up the phone and call.  I really do begin with the blog process!

I agree that you may be able to pick up a sense of who someone is by reading their blog. However, some blog late at night and do it quickly so it may not be a piece of Shakespeare...glad you have some other means of determining a realtor's capability. I'd hate to think that it all stems on blogging.

I agree that if someone isn't aware of proper grammar and can't spell...it is a turn-off. I too, would not refer my client to someone who did not use proper grammar, since I feel it would be a negative reflection on me, to do so.

Perhaps, we should all be more aware of how we are blogging...

Bonnie, good points. I too do the same. When I pick a referral agent, designations are top priority for me. However, it never ceases to amaze me how grammatically poor some people blog. I think it reflects their professionalism or lack there of.

I want a well-round individual as you suggested.

Bonnie: It might be helpful if AR could allow us to list the various towns or communities we service--up to a predetermined limit (3 perhaps?). That way, we can better locate agents with whom we would like to work.

Today, ActiveRain's Ben Wisely offers an interesting solution for both referrals and accumulated points: Bid for them with points!http://activerain.com/forumthread/579

What a wonderful resource we have with this great group of people to choose the best possible referral for our clients. I know that when I send them a referral (which I have done) my clients are well taken care of!! Thanks

I can't agree anymore with you. I see this network as extending the overall experience I will be able to offer my clients! Feeling comfortable with who you are recommending your clients to is a great feeling! I'm sure many great personalities will come from this site and excel their individual businesses :)

My usual sequence when I don't know someone, is Cyberstars-CRS-CIPS etc, then based on looking at their web site (if they don't have one, they're out), seeing their designations, and ultimately a phone interview.  Pre-empting this, though, are people I know - those I've met through organizationa, conferences, courses, etc. AR is yet another source to add to the pre-empting process because I do feel I know some of you quite well.
