My husband and I went on a company sponsored fishing trip out into the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday. It was a neat experience. It was chartered by Underwater Expedtions of Freeport, TX. The boat we were on was Capt. Casey. Here is their website for more info....

Everyone meets at the dock at about 5:45. The boat heads out to sea at about 6am.

It's smooth sailing in the beginning, everyone is excited and although tired, we are having a good time.

Then the seasickness sets in as the water gets rougher. After several people lose their breakfast they end up in the air conditioned room on the boat, including my dear husband.

Please remember that if you have never been on the open sea and don't know if you will be seasick that no matter how big and bad you think you are....even the biggest guys can be brought down by the ocean waves so TAKE SOME DRAMAMINE!!!

About 3 hours out we were finally fishing.

The crew was great. They even baited the hooks of those too squeamish to touch the squid bait we were using. I caught several snapper but I have no pictures of it because my hubby spent the whole trip sick.

The scenery was beautiful. The experience was great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has never experienced it before.

Do you recommend the fishing trip or the hubby getting sick the whole trip...lol. Seems you had fun.

The fishing trip. lol. Hubby acting like he was pregnant was not fun! However, since he watched me go through 3 pregnancies where I was sick all of the time.....it seems somehow ironic that I do not get seasick and had to be the one taking care of him.

Hi Cheri,  I got sick the time I went and I had taken Dramamine before breakfast.  They told me I should have taken it the night before as well.  I want to do it again but I will probably take Dramamine for several days before.  The sea sickness was not fun and I never got to fish.  Thanks for the pictures! Great post!

Cheri - Not a good feeling; feel like you are going to die and go to heaven. Even when we go out on the gambling boat out of Port A you should take a preventative or just get the patch.

Where's all the fish?

Carl, I caught several snapper. I didn't have anyone to take pictures because I didn't know anyone else. My husband has only worked there a year. I guess I could have taken pictures of other people's fish but I didn't. From what I know, we caught mostly Snapper and Ling.

Cheri'...

We used to charter a boat every year out of Galveston, the Margarata.  It was not a "party barge" so it was a lot better for not getting sea sick.

I've been out on the party barges before and thank God I did not get sick (a little queezy), but 99% of the people on the boat did!  I felt so sorry for a couple of them, they threw up for six hours, and turned kinda green...so this is GREAT ADVICE.

Don't spill a great trip take Cheri's advice and take something an hour BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HARBOR!  L

Hey Cheri,

Dramamine helps, but the best remedy for sea-sickness is to fish the Gulf of Mexico from FLORIDA! I think it has to do with the morning sun at your back and that big glass of Florida OJ to wash down the dramamine before you leave shore...

lol Wayne. Nice try. You know I was surprised at how clear the water was way out in the gulf! I was used to muddy brown looking Galveston water.
