All About Knoxville Tennessee

Knoxville is much more than just a college town. In this edition we will take a look at all the sports in the area. I can assure you of this. Knoxville is definitely a sports town. Even though they do not have any MAJOR pro sports teams here, they still have a presence of venues. Without further ado, lets dive in.

We will start out with the recreation centers that allow for amueter sports here in the Knoxville area. Now mind you this is both youth and adult and you can find oppurtunities for about anything. The thing that I like the best though is that the recreation centers are all around the area. With that said, City of Knoxville Recreation Direct Joe Walsh's department offers American Youth Soccer League , Baseball / Softball Programs, Basketball Programs, Football Programs, Ice Hockey (KAHA), and Tennis Programs just to name a few.

One could also make a bid that the high schools in the area have some great programs. As I was moving to town, some of the seasons where coming to a close. I guess the one that sticks out to me the most at this point is Farragut taking it to the max and bring home the state championship in baseball. From what I see, this will be a program to reckon with for year years to come.

When it comes to Knowxville, everyone knows the Volunteer's and the success that their athletic department has had. With that said, unless you have lived here, you do not feel the same energy that this city and the alumni feel for each and every athlete that wears the UT colors. It is an awesome feeling to see Saturday games in this city. As for the other programs, each of them have their own followings as well. It is truly an adernalin rush like no other.

Once you leave the spectrum of the Vols, there are two teams in the pro world that you can catch. In the world of Hockey, Knoxville is home to Minor League Single "A" Knoxville Ice Bears. They are part of the SPHL or better known as the Southern Professional Hockey League. Now, if hockey is not your thing you can always catch a baseball game with the Tennessee Smokies, which are a Minor League Double "A" Affliate of the Chicago Cubs.

Well, I will leave it there. I hope that you have enjoyed this weeks edition of All About Knoxville Tennessee. See you next week.

I have definetely seen enthusiasm when it comes to sports from those who live in and around Tennesee.  The titans for example have really been successfull there and it shows.
