So you're not in the market for buying or building a new home - you can still be Green, and you can still help the environment. Let's talk about appliances:
Bosch is a well known name in the luxury market, and is increasingly found in non-luxury homes as well. The appliance company started in 1886 when German engineer Robert Bosch opened his workshop, and now sells appliances in over 100 countries. They are known for quality and innovation - quiet dishwashers, for example.
Today I saw their new Nexxtwasher featured in the St Petersburg Times. In choosing cycles, you can choose 1) energy effecient or 2) MORE energy efficient. Pushing the e button reduces water and energy by an additional 20%, to a total of 76% less water than standard and 72% less energy. Their dishwasher, too, the quiet one, uses 48% less energy than a certified ENERGY SAVER product.
I looked up their website, and found they even have a Green Resources Center with sections for both builders and consumers. Builders are told how they can save money, and given links to other resources. Consumers are given information about products, costs, and can search for coupons and rebates by zipcode. They also have links to information on tax credits. Did you know an energy saving water heater could get you a $300 credit from IRS on your taxes? Did you know that buying one of these cool Nexxtwashers will save you $500 in energy costs over a 10 year period? That's pretty good for a top quality appliance that costs under $800.
Bosch is committed to the environment in their manufacturing process and in their products, and they're committed to educating both consumers and builders about ways they, too, can contribute to saving our environment.
You, too, can earn an e, while saving money, having top quality - and having FUN.
