IStock_000005758296XSmall Friends Extending HandMy Most Positive Experience on ActiveRain is really the many friendships that have made me a better writer, a more knowledgeable real estate practitioner using technology and Web 2.0 to become self actualized and a far better professional in the real estate industry. I have grown so much here on ActiveRain and it is just the end on my first year.

We all know ActiveRain is a social real estate network, on that we probably agree.  But aren't we also a team?  I ask this as I thought about what a team is and what it means to be a team player here on ActiveRain.  We have read and enjoyed the great posts as someone else announces that they were just discovered on ActiveRain and now are working with a new client. That lucky member won the first battle for recognition but what about the rest of us?  We didn't get a lead or a client should we be excited for them? You bet we should because it is what team players do.

John Maxwell, known as America's expert on leadership, having written more than 25 books says the following, " Ordinary people with commitment can make an extraordinary impact on the world".

As members of ActiveRain, we are individuals but we join our voices together in a chorus of information to empower the consumer and also to enhance our own lives.  When one of us has a success, we should indeed celebrate for we are at our best demonstrating that our network system works and we are each and everyone an integral part of the team.  In this case then, a team player.

I think it was Brian Brady, who said we need to fully understand, embrace  and work our Long-tail with our blogging. IStock_000005836621XSmall Blog FriendshipsBrian helped me understand my own Long-Tail and for that I am most grateful. Thank you Brian. Your advise was not wasted.

And while I certainly agree with Brian about our Long-Tail, there is yet another empowering side to all this.  What possible benefit could there be in bringing your knowledge and expertise to be shared with your team?  I would say there are two benefits.  The first being the most obvious in that others on ActiveRain can learn and they in turn becomes stronger just like I have learned and continue to do so.  Shared knowledge.

The second reason isn't quite so obvious except to the person who shared the resources or the tips, the guidelines or that wonderful idea.  When you bring a lesson forward as the teacher, that might be the time that you actually take full custody of the idea or the lesson.  As an example of this, I wrote a post a while back about marketing with your business card.

I can usually take better and faster custody of my own ideas once I share them and learn from others the more practical ways that I might apply them. One of the ideas in that marketing piece  was about putting your business card in a presentation envelope.  After my envelopes arrived for my business cards I couldn't wait to present my first card to anyone I could find to take it.  It wasn't more than a couple weeks that passed and I received a call from someone who said she got my card from a friend and was so impressed that she just knew I was the kind of agent that she wanted to work with.  We are still working to find her a new home but the point made is that I would never have ever met this lady on my own.  And what impressed her was seeing my professional card beautifully fitted in a card sleeve.

Did I win as a member of the ActiveRain team by being a responsible and a contributing team player.  I think so and I believe others think so as well.  I also know from responses to that post that others will and have also implemented the idea and maybe will also have the same type of results as I had.

So while being totally focused on our own long tail, I think one our most positive experiences comes when we share our ideas and share those successes with our fellow ActiveRainers. Of course we must stay focused on our goal of helping all of Active Rain help us to achieve our individual successes as being recognized as the "go to person" in our area for expert real estate advice and service.

Remember that we usually get as good as we give. Putting substantive things out there for consumers and your peers alike will eventually cause all of us to become more recognized as the professionals we are. We don't need points to win because having our colleagues there with us in spirit to encourage us, is a winning edge.

Everyone on the team begins to win when the first one gets a lead or a client.  As these increase and they repeat their success, it becomes like the result of a  Viral Marketing response that ActiveRain has so strongly advocated since day one.

A good analogy for what it takes to get Viral Marketing working effectively is the wheel.  Once we have designed our wheel and then ensure it does what IStock_000006274276XSmall Stone Wheelit is supposed to do ( in other words, that it is round and  has some way to affix an axle to hold it up and allow it to function as wheel), all it takes is a small force to move it. And for a while the wheel will continue to move all on its own. When the inertia subsides and the wheel stops and it takes  another small force to be applied to move it again and it will continue again all on its own until it stops. Making your posts interesting enough for others to read is the inertia. Continually writing your posts and keeping them interested is the continued force. If you continue this process, soon the world will be moving in sync with you.

Team members always love and admire a player who is able to help them learn or who enlarges them. An Enlarger by John Maxwell's definition is one who adds value by helping others improve their abilities.

Darling William,

Your words "Remember that we usually get as good as we give."  certainly resonate throughout this post.  You give so much of yourself to so many, here on AR, and in so many other aspects of your personal and professional life.  I am honored to call you my friend and valued mentor.

May God continue to richly bless you,

I think that AR has SO MUCH to offer. One of the problems is that I'm losing sleep over all the reading.  We all try in our own way (I think) to make AR a better place.  I already am an avid reader of some of the bloggers you mention.  Some of the others I will be checking out.

06/18/2008 03:14 AM by Ruthmarie Hicks (Keller Williams Realty)

William again Google Alerts picked up your post in no time. I almost fell off my chair when reading "genius" (most of my friends would disagree) but thanks so much for the mention, judging by the company you've listed me with I'm more than honored and I've also been enlarged by so many here on AR including you my friend.

William, what a well thought out post and I am truly honored to be mentioned among all these bloggers. Truly active rain has changed my life personally and professionally. It is such a joy to get to know you.

William, you are like the heart and soul of Active Rain, so sincere and faithful.

I too am honored William.  What a wonderfully articulated post about the amazing phenom that is Active Rain.  You've been a pretty amazing contributor yourself. Now, about that shirt:-)

06/18/2008 08:54 AM by Jason Sardi, Pennsylvania Mortgage Broker (First Choice Equity Group Inc.)

I'll go ahead and dub you since you have far too much humility for that, William.  You strike me as the Conscience of Active Rain.  I have made many wonderful and unique friends here, each with their own special gift(s).  I would linger even without the vaunted Google juice and readily available advice/guidance.  I don't believe I have encountered another who embraces the spirit of community quite like you, William.  Not only do your words always glow with positivity and encouragement, but you lead by example.  You have that innate quality that draws people and makes them want to do better, and it is achieved without the need for cajoling.  You lead by example.  Now as for me being the future of Active Rain ... let's hope not!  I see myself as an evolutionary hiccup.  A dead-end offshoot in blogging's natural selection.  Like the dodo bird.  A bit of a curiousity, but not well adapted to thriving over the long haul.  In a world of sleek, razor-toothed predators, a large flightless bird is easy pickings.

Thanks for the mention, my friend.

William, there's also a great sense of continuity about AR - even when you spend time away from the computer the community is there waiting for you.  During my transition to Coldwell Banker in a salaried capacity, I've been sorely neglecting my involvement.  But the faces and positive comments keep flowing...

Good Morning William, Thanks you so much and I so agree with that with your perspective. We not only tend to find what we seek but with this group, we so get much more. Thank you for being a part of this post. I have wanted to write this for quite some time.

Good morning Marlene, I am delighted that you came by and I am so glad that you also had a chance to see this before leaving for Spain. I spoke with Lynda last night and I am so excited that this opportunity came up for both of you. We will all be pleased to see how the real estate transaction differs in Spain form here in California. Early summer is so beautiful there and can't wait to share in all your experiences. Perhaps you can start another CRS Chapter while there. Have the time of your life and a safe and wonderful experience.

Hi RuthMarie,

You raise a subject that of course is so true and is something we all try to balance. We always want to be there and support others by reading the writings and be encouraging. There are times when life gets in the way.

Thanks for taking the time to read this really long one. I wish I could write more like Sharon Simms. She can get to the point so quickly and so interestingly, that she is a real pleasure to read.

Hi William....I will have start visiting this group more often---and must start to focus on the positive, I have to admit that I was getting side tracked and questioning why I joined ar.  While I have received some very nice and positive comments--I received a few that were not so nice--I must get away from the negative and start focusing on the positive.....Thanks for sharing your story.

06/18/2008 12:14 PM by Aida Pinto REO Broker/Notary Public (ReoLicensedSpecialist.com)

Hi Marti, I have not read any universal agreement from anyone making comments that I actually put the right descriptive word for anyone. We all see what we do and our skills as perhaps differently than others may see them.

In all my internet surfing I have never before seen anything like what you do. It is unique, creative and most others are not capable of what you do and in particular what you contribute here on ActiveRain. I am certainly not one to insist that you are a genius if those that know you and in particular yourself see what you do as ordinary, not distinguishable or just plain not extraordinary.

The truth is in my eyes ( at least for this post and I am the authority on what I see, LMAO) So, You are a Genius. There! You can't make take it back. Thanks for coming over Marti and being a part of this team. BTW, I only wish I had even 1/100 of your skill and truly extraordinary talent.

06/18/2008 12:26 PM by San Diego Real Estate Voice authored by William Johnson GRI CRS e-PRO (RE/MAX Associates)

Good Morning Bryant, I am very pleased and honored that you stopped by. You set the standard quite some time ago. I recall reading in even the comments that I received about how others perceive you and how they rely on your word when issues come up. Because of your experience and what you have contributed to all of us as we come up the ranks, it is wonderful and fitting that you should remain on the pedestal.

I am glad I had a chance to make a day for you, By my calculations of the numbers of members we have, you would have at least another 90,000 plus more days in which someone should be making your day. It is fitting then that this post should be just as a small expression of what you brought here to this network. Our Real Estate Network, as I am reminded by Lenn in here comments above. ( LOL)

I just made it through my first year in Real Estate and I really don't think i could have lasted without the encouragement I got from other Rainers! They really helped me through a lot of downs and congratulated me on the ups.

Hi Missy, The ones that are really honored are the ones that benefitted from all you contribute here. Thank you for coming by and one thing for sure, all you greats are so humble and that just adds all the more significance to what you have contributed to all of us.

Good Morning Jason, this is an amzaing group of talent here of which you are an integral part of. Not to worry about the shirt, we are going to start a collection and buy you a few new ones so you can continue to give them away, when needed. It 's the right thing to do, don't you think? LOL

Good Morning Paul, Thanks you for those wonderful comments . Don't sell yourself short. You are quite remarkable. I truly do see you as the Future of ActiveRain. You have a zeal for truth, and superb way of expressing to capture the imagination and that is the greatest benefit of Web 2.0. To capture ones imagination. You seek out the best in all things, to provide a venue for a higher lever of communication that differentiates itself from the tedious. An inspiration, if you will. You posses that and you touch people in a way that enhances their experience and their lives. You incorporate your family, your life and professional situations in ways that others can easily relate. You never draw down but lift up with insight and yes even imagination. A writer, a professional with the highest standards, a man in love with life, family, friends and the earth itself. Yes, you are the Future, so make it work.

Thank you Duane that is really quite wonderful and I am very pleased and feel honored with your expression. Next year on this anniversary of A positive Attitude for the Weary Soul, It should not surprise anyone that you will be appearing as a another wonderful Most Positive Experience. Over a period of 6 to 10 months, the people I have listed here impacted my life in special and unique ways that I did not fully comment about in the post. It would have been a few more pages long. I tried to be brief ( Sharon Simms and Lenn Harley are brilliant at this) of making a point and saying it in just a few words. But being the verbose type, this is new lesson that has been put here for me to learn. To be more succinct and less wordy and make the point even stronger. If I can learn to pass this challenge, I will be amazed. And probably awesome to boot,LOL

Hi William...

You know...I finished reading it and then sat back a for a few moments. I wanted to dwell on just how far you've come since the first time I teased you into talking to me on your Blog. You were so cute back then :)

You are a purrfect example of how success can be achieved on AR. Patience and the willingness to go the extra mile or two or three :)

Oh...Before I check out (good way of putting that) I want you to know I love "Active Rain Enlargers" ... Priceless :)

TLW...ROAR!

Good Morning Lenn, another of things that is so special and remarkable about you is that you never miss the details.

Ok, I messed up a little, ( Again). But I am doing my penance. I got the white board out and I have written 1000 times, Activerain is a  Real Estate Network. I don't do Dunce Cap very well . In the first place I can't sit still and in the second place, a Dunce Cap messes up my hair. So you will have to settle for the writing on the white board.

As to the description about you, I left out the part about all the fun and the laughs we have had. I should amend the post so people get that balanced view of you. You really are quite a joy to know.

Hi Brad, wow, thank you for the great comments. There is a comment here that I haven't commented on as yet from Aida and she speaks of having seen been side tracked with some negative stuff. I am sure there has been some out there but what made all these people so wonderful ( you included) is that they ( and you) give so freely and have helped and taught so many. When you get all this, it is hard to even remember the not so nice stuff out here. What we do have for everyone who wants it, is the best and Most Positive Experiences you could ever want. Subscribe to any or all of these people for 60 days and ones outlook could easily be transformed.

Thank You again Brad and I am heading over to Aida's blog and see if I can shine the light on the positive. Thanks again for all the amazing things you teach us. In the other networks out there, I don't see the Enlargers in such large supply. I wonder why? Perhaps because they are all here on AR?

It was nice of you to introduce some AR folks that may not be so well known here.  Some new names for me to check out.

With every positive, there seems to be a negative, but that's what makes a battery work right?  "Is the glass half empty or half full?"  is what my Pops use to say.  "Every rose has it's thorn" was Mom's line and mine is simple.  People helping others!  It's the greatest gift you can ever give another person, time is STILL the one priceless yet most valuable commodity there is, and no matter what the price or sacrifice, it's always worth it!!  :-)

Hi Jeff, It is amazing isn't it. It does take a while for people to get know others and then when go have to stay away for a while , they are missed and welcomed back. Congratulations seem in order with your new position with Coldwell Banker. Sounds like you are settling in to something new.

06/18/2008 03:23 PM by San Diego Real Estate Voice authored by William Johnson GRI CRS e-PRO (RE/MAX Associates)

Hi Jeff, I know already that I missed a few. I was tempted to correct but the truth is there are so many and for you it would be impossible. You are so connected through the blogging world. In some respects I am about where you were when I started. In time and with persistence I will make it. One thing I know is that I am acquiring the skills ( and no small amount of credit to all you leaders that paved the way)and venturing out and hope to leave a mark that would be worth it for others to pursue it, just like you and others have done and continue to do

The thing that so impresses me is that this all seems to be one one way when we start out but as we learn, we really do become consumer advocates and we do add value to consumers searches for information, property, the how to's and the pitfalls in the transaction. We do this with a positive attitude and one we believe will differentiate us somehow from the hoards of others. The difference in us  vrs then is  that 1. they don't seem care as much 2. that are sometimes very cavalier in their attitude and 3, they may not want to learn it all to a point of mastery. We obviously do and are willing to pay the price for what it takes to do that, while also trying to earn our living in our craft.

Hello Elizabeth, you are so right. I have often compared the sum of what is offered as better than a Master's Degree. This the equivalent of hundreds of years of learning all condensed to to essential things and then given away to whomever seeks it. You have to love what we have here. I have been to other networks , numerous of them. Some good writing out there for sure but it doesn't seem to have a link to the sharing aspect. Here we have the writing, the person, the experience and then the shared tools to replicate it and even imporve on it.

06/18/2008 03:39 PM by San Diego Real Estate Voice authored by William Johnson GRI CRS e-PRO (RE/MAX Associates)

Hello Aida, I went over to your site and write some very amazing and pleasant things. I also noticed that you write to members only in fear of being judged by the larger community.

You demonstrate that you have a lot of abilities. If I were giving you any sort of guidance, I would say you could enhance what you already do with more localism posts about real estate and your community. There is tons of room in the world for humor. We don't ( any of us ) smile or laugh enough. So I am not suggesting you change style but perhaps you could add more topics of local interest. And certainly there is nothing in what you write that needs to be Members Only. Don't rely on that , just go for it. I am subscribing and I will share anything I have in my quiver of arrows that you would want to give you whatever position you seek.

The folks that I highlighted are just some of the ones I know that have so much talent. There are so many others here with such talent that you could seize and teach yourself to be at whatever level you might desire. It is all here for all of us. We make it grow when we use it and share it.

You are a talented writer Aida.

Hi Ann, I loved your comments and I wish If I were starting out I would have had this kind off support structure. These people are amazing and look what you will be will able to contribute back to keep this very things going. You are proof that such a system has untold long term value for our consumers and our professionals alike. What a win win!

Hello TLW ROAR! See, I learned it right. I remember. I really didn't have clue what the heck I was doing or even how to do it. It did take a measure of sticktoitiveness (sp) ,is that a real word, lol?

You were so encouraging you already knew what it takes. It is simple but not so easy as you know. In time though another passes the threshold and they are off and doing it, picking up tips on leveraging their edge and becoming stronger all the while.

But when it is al said and done, we have learned and we have shared and it kept us all engaged and we each begin to benefit in unique and wonderful ways.

So here are, all connected and not needing a place to go, we are already where we belong. Than k you for the laughs, for the serious ways to improve and for  just being there. It makes such a difference.

Hi Brad, what a great analogy, the battery. The thorn on the Rose and the pricelessness of time also remind us of life's order. Perfection usually doesn't came ready made. The raw elements are supplied and we are to shape them into perfection or excellence with are skill, our attitude and most of all with our desire to seek it out in the first place. As the opposite of love is not hate , it is indifference. So then the opposite of perfection or excellence is not mediocrity, it is more that mediocrity is acceptable.

"sticktoitiveness"?!?... LOL...Nope that ain't a word. But who really cares about that? No one I know :)

Good luck and good fortune to you always :)

I'm with TLW, I love the term "enlargers".  What a wonderful post that hits on so much of what makes AR special.  Those that aren't a part of it simply can't understand and it truly is hard to describe but you did a beautiful job!  My latest example would be the 6 of us AR girls who spent the weekend together...we had never met before yet felt like we had been friends for years!

Brad- Thank you. Since I am a work in progress , it will interesting to see how much I can actually improve with the optomization that I am learning.

I just had to edit this because I forgot to put your name on it and then it just becomes a bunch of words and no one would know who they are directed to,LOL

Sorry , William

William--You deserve to win the contest with this wonderful positive post...I had a google alert with my name but couldn't find the post until today. What a nice sentiment and honor to be included with these AR blogging greats. I am very appreciative of your thoughts and your friendship.

TLW  ROAR! I didn't think it was a word but it maybe should be. Thank you for that , that was so sweet. I have been juggling counter offers all day and just got another offer on a property, making it two for that one in just a few hours. The market seems to be turning and that is all good.

I may not get my comments in today but I feel like I have just written a book already, lol. Many Thanks again!

Hi Diane, I am so appreciative of your comments and indeed what we have here is most difficult to describe and most wouldn't believe it. But it all true and we have ( so many of us) benefited in such marvelous ways. The learning is awesome and the friendships even more so. What is also awesome is that we found each other again, here on ActiveRain. I think is extraordinary, having worked together as trustees for CAR. It is a small world and I am so grateful for all of this.

Hi Teri, not to worry, if you hadn't found it I would have e-mailed you. Now, here is the strange part of this post. I wrote this over 5 weeks ago. I tried to add the links to the names and each time I worked on it, I would lose the original -system problems as you might recall. So it ended up getting shelved in the draft file. There was no contest back when I wrote this. I didn't write it to win something, I wrote it as an appreciation post. When Sally confronted me about the one year anniversary, I thought this might be thing to give her group because it really is and was My Most Positive Experience. I really don't care much for contests and would not have entered it except for Sally. I will go out of my way to support her just because I think so much of her and what she puts herself out for. Did you know that when see meets someone new here, she actually sends e-mails out and asks others to drop by and welcome them. She does it because she wants everyone to succeed, just like you and the others and myself. We know that what is good for one to be good for all and that is what this post is about. I think of us as being a team and we are the team players. Thanks you so much for dropping by. One of the people I mentioned above has a unique situation and I offered to donate the points , if per chance I did win any points to help out with the situation. I sure have received more than my share of good fortune already so it seems like the right thing to do.
