My time with Steve Reno. 1968 Mr Venice Beach

This is Steve Reno, from 1968. He came into my store today. He has quite the story. I just had to share who I got to meet today.

He made the statement to me that, "when people thought I had died, I was more sought after and missed, than when I was alive and winning competitions." He was :

Steve Reno

1968

Mr California - AAU, 4th
Mr Los Angeles - AAU, Junior, 2nd
Mr Venice Beach, Winner

1969

Mr Los Angeles - AAU, 5th

He talked some about competeting with Arnold, Frank and others. He came down with Bell's Palsy in 68 and had to stop competeting. He was starting to come up. What a wonderful story. He is going to get me a couple of pics and a letter that Arnold recently sent him.

I just thought I would share.

Earl,

My cousins took me down to Muscle Beach in 1973.

I was introduced to Frank Zane.

Back than Gold`s Gym on the beach was the mecca for body builders.The dedication these guys had back than has never been duplicated...

It was amazing to see...

Scott, WOW! That would have been amazing. I have been down there in the 90's. Not the same. I love watching the 'ol guys. They didn't get as big as now, but they worked hard. Steve Reno worked out with Frank and others. I love to look at the old mags with them.

When I was a kid, I ordered the Charles Atlas program. I was so excited, but I am not sure that at 10-12, I had the dedication, or support. lol Thank you for the comment.

Venice was amazing back than.

Most of my family resides on the LEFT COAST....

Older siblings went to UCLA back than.

Scott, I am sure it was. Not the same now. I just had a lady come in today who was Ms. Venice Beach, in 1973. She worked out with Steve Reeves, Frank Zane, and others. She knew Steve Reno. She is to bring me by some photos. Thank you for the post.
