Virtual Meetings? Does Anyone Do This?

Being part of the tech committee at the Daytona Area Association of REALTORS we try to come up with some innovative ways for real estate professionals to do business.

Yesterday I paid $4.01 a gallon for gas and I can see in our area prices are on the rise rapidly.  So a question was posed to all of us.  Would we be open to a virtual meeting?  Yes, I would, it's really not about the gas prices but to try something different.  Outside the box or is it?

Our AE suggested 2nd Life I suggest maybe a webinar.  Does anyone attend virtual meetings and what do you use to conduct them?  Would love to know.

Midori What about using skype for the meeting. That is free. For a webinar the host would have to pay, with skpe you don't!

Sounds like something worth the effort. Might also result in increased attendance.

I've found that when we go to webinar meetings WAY more people RSVP than actually attend. Also, people can do many other things than pay attention during the meeting -

You'll get people who REALLY want to be there...

Midori - I do "Virtual Meetings" twice a week using iChat.  It allows up to 4 members to meet in a true video teleconference in real time where we can hear and see each other.

Midori,  This is part of the future plan for my company as all the agents we have work from home.  The only difficulty is matching up the right minded agents with the available technology.  Seems that my time frame usually doesn't work for all concerned.  Takes a while to put all the parts together.

Midori,

I have attended a few virtual conferences and whoever the provider is for those, the quality has been outstanding.  The platform used for the EcomExpo is fantastic.

I have attended some virtual meetings in the past set up as training sessions . I don't know if it was the trainer or the fact there was no one realy there, but I found myself drifting from the conversation which I wouldn't do in person.

Midori, I've participated in quite a few webinars and audio conferencing, but haven't done what Sam said with the video. That would be pretty cool!

Try out Gotomeeting or Adobe ConnectNow.  I do a conference call with our real estate offices each Monday with Gotomeeting and we can screen share for $49 with up to 15 people and have 16 people on a conference call.  For $99/month you can host quite a few more people which might be appropriate for a association.

Just a couple of ideas.

What a great idea. I head the forms committee for our local association and some meeting days would be so much easier if done virtually. Hmmm

Midori,

It's getting to become a necessity to do virtual meetings. I have participated with several virtual meetings. Some have been within the US and some have been international. The US meetings work well via webinars. On the other hand the international meetings are a little bit more complicated depending on the telephone connections.

Three I recommend are:
Gotomeeting.com
Skype.com
Vereconference.com

Thanks for the post,

Ced
