Any “Parrotheads” out there? I know there are. Then today is for you.
Jimmy Buffett is one of those stars that went from a street performer in New Orleans to one of the richest and most successful musicians around.
Buffett and his Coral Reef Band are famous for their island sound which Buffett honed playing for tourists in Key West, Florida in the 1970s. His breakthrough came in 1977 with his album Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. The album contained several Buffett hits including the title song and his biggest hit Margaritaville. This is a song about a man who has decided to drown his sorrows in a drink that he called “a frozen concoction”. It is a fun-loving escape from the doldrums of everyday life.
Over the years Buffett has become one of the most popular live performers, with a loyal following of fans that call themselves “Parrotheads”.
The song Margaritaville is ranked 234th on the Recording Industry Association of America’s list of Songs of the Century. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016.
For my money, the world needs more songs, like today’s song, perhaps to inspire a change in attitudes. Take a listen.
