Can't be found in Yahoo! - What's wrong?

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty World Wichita

I've asked this before, but I still struggle.  I've written at least 3 SEO guru's from AR, and no response.  I'm starting to think there is NO ANSWER!!

I rank well in Google.  Page 1 for 10 or so keywords.  No position greater than 6.  I know that Google is king - 68% or more of all searches world wide.  I get 1500 or so entries to my site (www.realtyworldwichita.com) per month from Google, and only 200 or so entries from Yahoo!.  I don't understand

Yes Yahoo! bot visits me.  Yes I've posted my Sitemap to Yahoo! - tho I don't get the neat tools like we have in Google.

I know Yahoo! is in trouble, but people do use it to search I think.  So - is anyone having success with Yahoo?  Are Links the only way to get up in the Yahoo! engine?  Should I say who cares because Google is doing well?

HELP!!!

Greg - great question, I've wondered this myself.  The books I've read seem to say that Yahoo is much more paid search based.  I'll bookmark you and watch for answers!

Greg - I am not having any real luck with Yahoo either which is very frustrating.  I am interested in hearing comments on this topic from others.

Both MSN and Yahoo weigh new links to websites much higher then Google does.  I suggest getting 30 - 100 new backlinks and see what happens with your Yahoo rankings.  My guess is that within 2 months you'll rank high but after about 6 - 9 months your rankings will drop off again on Yahoo and MSN...  Different Search Engines.  Different rules.

All the Best,

Thanks Glenn.  I'll work on getting the links.  Is it true that Google can penalize for link exchanges?

I like what Glenn says also... I too suffer on yahoo vs. the google. AR gives us a big bump with Google's methods.

Yahoo is  a lost cause, no matter how much you try it just won't give you the same results as Google, nowhere near.  Remember AOL?  Well, this is the same path for Yahoo.

I've been studying yahoo, and its just no use anymore.  They are working on changing their system and trying to compete with Google, just won't happen.  Tons of workers from Yahoo are jumping ship, so that pretty much tells everything.  Even as an investment, Yahoo is a lost cause.  They should've let Microsoft take over and maybe it would've been better.  Stop trying to make Yahoo a success in your search engine.  Stick with Google and maximize your SEO with Google.  If you want, drop Yahoo and save money

Greg,

I've never got penalized by Google for relevant link exchanges.  I've experimented over the years with numerous different ways of ranking sites via inbound links and I've only had one challenge about five years ago when Yahoo dropped one of my sites for an overly agressive campaign.  I knew it was overly agressive however I wanted to see what would happen so I tried a different methodology.  Ironically the site currently ranks #1 for "Bellingham Real Estate" in Google but still doesn't show up on Yahoo after five years.  You'd think they would get over it...  Anyway I've positioned a second site for Bellingham and now have two sites in the top 10 on Google for "Bellingham Real Estate" and one high ranking site on Yahoo.

Since then I've positioned at least about 10 sites to the top 3 in Google for "City"+"Real Estate" in different parts of the country without a challenge.

I hope this helps.

Glenn
