It is June 2nd and I sat outside after dinner tonight to look up at the early night sky, hoping to see my first Lightening Bug of the season.
I look for them every year, in the early days of June.

The nights have been a bit on the cool side the last few days, below average according to local weather people. Into the mid 60's, so I did not think they would appear.

Lightening BugMy wish was fulfilled.

After a few minutes I saw 2 lights!!!

They appeared on the edge of the branches up high.

There was a burst of excitement from one then another joined in.

They left one tree and headed up to another tree, a short distance away.

Then they stopped lighting.

Glad to know they will be lighting the trees in the early night sky this June.

The up coming hot weather will help them along.

Lightening Bugs, I never tire of their gifts of light.

Good morning, Gloria... can't say I've seen a lightning bug probably in "forever." I love how you call it their gifts of light.

Hi Gloria- I never saw a June bug until I visited Larry's family in Kansas. I do remember when we lived in Leesburg VA our house backed up to a wooded area. All of the trees lit up one night and it was breathtaking.

Hi Gloria....it's been years since I've seen lighting bugs.  But it was always amazing when we did as kids living on a lake.  We have another tiny tiny baby bunny living in our backyard - which is awesome.  Thankfully Gary happened to be out the pool when he heard a splash.  The little guy fell in and now he's alive thanks to Gary getting him out fast and making sure he was ok.

I have yet to see a lighting Bug.  Would love to experience it before I shuffle off the planet!
