You Tube Thursdays - An Invitation to "Follow Finnegan"
A Road Trip - What are you thinking?
Two weeks ago, we hinted at a secret adventure. While admittedly, not the most convenient time to take a road trip, with many business and restaurants closed, we made the best of it. Following safety protocols when in public - masks, social distancing, and lots of hand washing, we managed to stick to ourselves the majority of the time.
The reason for the trip, and the big payoff, came when we picked up our new family member, and Nature As Neighbors' mascot, Finnegan. Finnegan, like his predecessor, McKinley, is a white Golden Retriever, also know as an English Cream, or English Style Golden Retriever.
Finnegan was born in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, on a lake. No doubt you're wondering why we chose a puppy that far away. It's a long story, but we respect the philosophy of the at-home breeder, and her love for dogs health and happiness. Plus, she checked us out thoroughly as we did her, and we appreciated it.
Out of concern for puppies' well being, if they were shipped across the country right now, the breeder chose to deliver five puppies to families from Texas, Nevada, and Washington State (us), at a meeting spot in Lincoln Nebraska. We all adhered to the safety protocol required, as you'll see in the video.
Our trip back home was slow-going, with frequent breaks for Finnegan. Since we had to seek out areas with little public activity, due to a puppy's risk for Parvo-Virus, it often took us a long time to find the right spot for him. All worth it too, in retrospect. Although, I'm sure he dreamed of the lake as our days melted together with long drives and hotel rooms.
We are so happy to be home!
Puppies, like human babies, require a lot of attention. Focusing their energy on acceptable behavior is critical as they are at an optimal learning period between the age of 8 - 16 weeks. They also need frequent outdoor breaks to do their business. That means interrupted sleep for us, sometimes several times during the night.
We are blurry eyed, but deliriously happy. He brings so much joy and laughter to our world. Naturally, this little guy will be starring in many of our upcoming videos. Like our "Mac," we know he's destined to be a scene stealer. We hope you'll want to "Follow Finnegan" on his many upcoming adventures in the months and years ahead.
