10 Top Excuses to Be On ActiveRain

What are the top reasons to be on ActiveRain? I was asked this question earlier, and thought I'd try to answer it here in this post. After combing through hundreds of posts, these are some of the TOP excuses that I have discovered and personally experienced. The links below are to posts from other ActiveRain Members who concur.

The Top 10 Excuses for Being on ActiveRain:

#1 - The Networking

Having access to nearly 100,000 Industry Professionals at your fingertips 24/7/365 makes ActiveRain one of the most powerful networks in the Web2.0 world. If you have been here for any length of time, you know exactly what I mean. ActiveRain is the Grand Central of Real Estate Networking and Sharing.

#2 - Better Internet Exposure

In just 90 days, my personal ActveRain Blog not only passed up my own website on Google, but it passed up my Corporate Employers Website too, and they are HUGE. I had no idea what I was doing and I still ranked higher on Google because of the Internet Exposure from my ActiveRain Blog. It has generated numerous leads from both consumers and other members. You will get exposed on ActiveRain.

#3 - Grow Your Business

You can convert leads from ActiveRain into live transactions. Since I am not a REALTOR®, I have been able to refer many buyers and sellers to other ActiveRain members from other areas. Growing business on AR is just one of the perks and privileges. Opportunities will just happen here, some large, some small, but you have to look for them, and you have to remain Active. Your content on ActiveRain and Localism are the key to growing your business.

#4 - Increased SEO

Google loves ActiveRain, and even though you don't hear much about it, so does Yahoo, MSN, and the other search engines. ActiveRain is also getting scrubbed by AOL, Good Morning America, CNN, Inman News and many other news networks. Where would you go as a reporter to find the latest real-time news from any place in the Country? The media knows this, and now many consumers are finding us too. Learn about SEO, it's why many are here.

#5 - Get Educated, Grow Resources

Learn anything, it's all on ActiveRain. Many of the members on ActiveRain market themselves the same way they'd want to be Marketed to.

#5 has been the #1 reason for me... certainly not to detract from ALL OF THE OTHER BENEFITS. And 'meeting' people like you is up there at the top somewhere. Wow!

Just wondering - how many members do we really have?

Susie - #5 is huge! It could be a post in itself. lol~

This past week, a member called me and wanted to be removed from ActiveRain. I tried to share some of these benefits with her, she just didn't understand how a community like ActiveRain could possibly help her business. If only I would have had this post last week, I would have emailed it to her. hmmm...I may still do that. Some get it, and I guess some don't.

We just keep doing our best right? :-)

I have recommended AR and invited friends to join in the past few months. A few have logged in and created their home page but they have yet to tap into the real values that AR offers. They will "get it" one day. The person that invited me only recently "got it" as she didn't spend much time here- just long enough to create her page and invite me. About a month ago she called to say that now she understands why I am so excited about AR! It is just a matter of time before my other invitees "get it" as well.

Ray - where have you been? Great to see you back at AR. Alot has changed, and a lot more changes ahead, all good of course. Let's try to connect next week, just want to see how you're doing. Hope all is well. :-)

Kevin - there is so much going on here, I don't think many members realize the depth and complexity of our community. I didn't realize myself how much is here until I started having to view a large percentage of posts that come in to us. WOW! It's a whole new world of ActiveRain I hadn't tuned into as a member here. I feel like a sponge everyday reading and trying to absorb everything that goes on in a day. It's truly an incredible experience.

Anthony - yes, and the visibility and networking part of your journey here are only the beginning. You just can't enjoy the cruise if you're not on the ship. Welcome aboard!! :-)

Virginia - it's one of my bad habits, I still like to save the best for last, even after all these years! lol~
If you ever want to see exactly how many members are on ActiveRain, just do this:

Click on "HOME" select "REAL ESTATE AGENTS" by type, click on "ALL" at the top of the screen, then scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on the last page link 3754, then scroll to the bottom of that page, and that will show you who the most recent member is that has joined and their number. Here's what it looks like, and here's your member count:

Brad, I love all the reasons, but the friendships and education are tops with me...how else would I have met you??? This is a great place and it's so much different than other social media. This is family and where you want to relax after a long day's work!

I have to agree with everyone above me brad, you have hit the nail on the head. If exposure is the paved highway in front of us, you just put down the sealcoat!

Every one of these is "right on", Brad. And not only that, but this is one of the "prettiest" posts I've seen in a long time... 'Gonna have to look back through your old posts to see if you've done a tutorial on making that attractive frame around your content.

I agree with your list. Networking, google ranking ,the free advertising and the knowledge we get, are all great reasons.

Brad- No need to make EXCUSES - these are all great Reasons for being on AR.

Great get to the point post. I think there are a few other points of being involved in active rain but these are the highlights!

Number 5 is my main reason. The education alone is pricless. Of course all the great people here make getting educated a joy!

Hmmm, guess I shall bookmark this post for the 3 week update:) AR also serves as a kind of news alert. Almost everything that goes on gets discussed here in one way or another. For me, I have yet to not get a zillion answers and perspectives on any question that I have had. It's like having a mentor with you all the time.

Brad - All 10 reasons to be a member of AR. Little over a year ago I could hardly spell Blog and didn't know much more then that. Nowl it is a big part of everyday life. First thing in the a.m. and in the p.m after I finish my inspections. Business has increased but the friendships are the best.

Active Rain has been great I have learned more hear than all of the NAR conventions put together and I have been with AR for less than a month

Lots of great reason to be here and it is a great way to meet people we would never have the opportunity to meet with out it

I am really looking at blogging in a whole new light. AR really does open the rabbit whole to the Internet. I like your impute and now I am doing some of my own studying on blogging. I have a couple questions.

1. On other blogs would you use something like googleblog or would you use a pay blog that is hosted.

2. I am curious on your opinioun on link exchanges. Do you think exchanging links is a good thing. Or will it be a negative or does it still work with the search engines. I know the one way like to your site is the best.

Steve - I would use the ActiveRain Outside Blogs with your own domain name now that they have been launched. Link exchanges can be both good and bad, it really depends on the specifics of how you are using them. Too many variables and gray areas to just say yea or nay. Let me know the specific scenario and I'll tell you what I think about link exchanges for that scenaro. :-)

There is just so much to learn here. Its incredible the amount of knowledge and little tips and tricks you can pick up....

Brad For heavens sake...every time I turn around I see something else you have posted that I need to learn. Thank goodness for bookmarking. Ike is supposed to hit Texas Friday so it will rain all day in Austin on Saturday and I will have time to make a "dent" in my home work! Sonja - you have no idea, things will be a bit easier when we get the channels added in the next few days. That will make it easier to find the topic related stuff you might be looking for here.

Russell - be safe my friend, and if you do some computer stuff during the storm, be careful that you don't get 2-3 hours into a post and then have the power go out, that can really ruffle some feathers, trust me, I know!

Sonja - I think anyone who knows this network and how it works, feels the exact same. If fact, I think AR is changing the face of Real Estate as we know it today, and is making a permanent mark on how social networking and marketing will affect the industry in the future. AR will be is a critical piece of your success in Real Estate.
