What are the top reasons to be on ActiveRain? I was asked this question earlier, and thought I'd try to answer it here in this post. After combing through hundreds of posts, these are some of the TOP excuses that I have discovered and personally experienced. The links below are to posts from other ActiveRain Members who concur.

The Top 10 Excuses for Being on ActiveRain:

#1 - The Networking

Having access to nearly 100,000 Industry Professionals at your fingertips 24/7/365 makes ActiveRain one of the most powerful networks in the Web2.0 world. If you have been here for any length of time, you know exactly what I mean. ActiveRain is the Grand Central of Real Estate Networking and Sharing.

#2 - Better Internet Exposure

In just 90 days, my personal ActveRain Blog not only passed up my own website on Google, but it passed up my Corporate Employers Website too, and they are HUGE. I had no idea what I was doing and I still ranked higher on Google because of the Internet Exposure from my ActiveRain Blog. It has generated numerous leads from both consumers and other members. You will get exposed on ActiveRain.

#3 - Grow Your Business

You can convert leads from ActiveRain into live transactions. Since I am not a REALTORĀ®, I have been able to refer many buyers and sellers to other ActiveRain members from other areas. Growing business on AR is just one of the perks and privileges. Opportunities will just happen here, some large, some small, but you have to look for them, and you have to remain Active. Your content on ActiveRain and Localism are the key to growing your business.

#4 - Increased SEO

Google loves ActiveRain, and even though you don't hear much about it, so does Yahoo, MSN, and the other search engines. ActiveRain is also getting scrubbed by AOL, Good Morning America, CNN, Inman News and many other news networks. Where would you go as a reporter to find the latest real-time news from any place in the Country? The media knows this, and now many consumers are finding us too. Learn about SEO, it's why many are here.

#5 - Get Educated, Grow Resources

Learn anything, it's all on ActiveRain. Technology, Marketing, Listings, Groups, Tutorials, How to's, Experiences, etc. There is so much information shared and contributed, it's some of the Best in the Industry. Many ActiveRain members are willing to share and give freely of their resources. They also share successes and failures. It's a real world education in real time. The resources available here are mind Bloggling!

#6 - Build Referral Business

Blogging has proven to create opportunities to connect with other members and the public. As you build up your Associates around the community, and you subscribe to other members, you'll find that building a referral base is a sinch. Sellers have to relocate to all parts of the country. Buyers want to invest in the same way. ActiveRain members span the entire country, building your referral foundation here couldn't be smarter, or easier.

#7 - Experience and Knowledge

Combined, there are thousands of years experience on ActiveRain. If you can't find it on here, it probably doesn't exist. There is more data here than you could read in a lifetime. 100's of members join each day, and hundreds of posts go up each week. Thousands of comments each day! As the community grows, so does your knowledge base. Huge amounts of information are just a click away. Learn from the Top Bloggers here.

#8 - Connect with Consumers

Success stories are everywhere on ActiveRain. Click here for members who have shared how they connected with consumers using their ActiveRain Blogs and Profile's. Some members here are Blogging to their geographic and target market areas. It's a great way to connect with consumers and past clients. The public is also using the ActiveRain Q&A link to ask their Real Estate questions. A great connecting point between members and consumers. Then there's Localism, the next "Force To Be Reckonned with!"

#9 - Save Money, FREE Marketing

To join ActiveRain is FREE, yes, but there are still some costs involved. It's Your TIME! You have to invest some of it. The Pay Back on ActiveRain comes in such a wide variety of ways. Marketing yourself and business on Activerain is very powerful and also a bit different. Everyone wants to buy, but no one wants to be sold. Many of the members on ActiveRain market themselves the same way they'd want to be Marketed to.

#10 - Build RELATIONSHIPS!

The Thunder and Lightning of ActiveRain. As in any business, relationships are the key to growth and success. Building relationships on ActiveRain is nearly impossible NOT TO DO. If you're here for the right reasons, and doing the right things, ActiveRain will become just as important to your business as any of your other tools and services. The relationships you build here will be for life. There's nothing better than the friends and clients you'll make on ActiveRain.

ActiveRain is NOT just another social network,
and here's 10 good excuses reasons to be here.

Brad - I thought you were going to leave out 'the friendships', till I got to the very end.

All good reasons!

Just wondering - how many members do we really have?

1:58am • #5

Susie - #5 is huge!  It could be a post in itself.  lol~

This past week, a member called me and wanted to be removed from ActiveRain.  I tried to share some of these benefits with her, she just didn't understand how a community like ActiveRain could possibly help her business.  If only I would have had this post last week, I would have emailed it to her.  hmmm...I may still do that.  Some get it, and I guess some don't.

We just keep doing our best right?  :-)

I came on here with no expectations and was totally blown away. The first time that I looked around, I realized that there was potential to network and I could do a little marketing by using a home page on the site. Then I started reading blogs and realized that the information (and humor) found on this site is invaluable!

I have recommended AR and invited friends to join in the past few months. A few have logged in and created their home page but they have yet to tap into the real values that AR offers. They will "get it" one day. The person that invited me only recently "got it" as she didn't spend much time here- just long enough to create her page and invite me. About a month ago she called to say that now she understands why I am so excited about AR!  It is just a matter of time before my other invitees "get it" as well.

Ray - where have you been?  Great to see you back at AR.  Alot has changed, and a lot more changes ahead, all good of course. Let's try to connect next week, just want to see how you're doing. Hope all is well. :-)

Kevin - there is so much going on here, I don't think many members realize the depth and complexity of our community.  I didn't realize myself how much is here until I started having to view a large percentage of posts that come in to us. WOW!  It's a whole new world of ActiveRain I hadn't tuned into as a member here.  I feel like a sponge everyday reading and trying to absorb everything that goes on in a day.  It's truly an incredible experience.

2:48am • #9

Anthony - yes, and the visibility and networking part of your journey here are only the beginning. You just can't enjoy the cruise if you're not on the ship.  Welcome aboard!!  :-)

2:52am • #11

Virginia - it's one of my bad habits, I still like to save the best for last, even after all these years! lol~
If you ever want to see exactly how many members are on ActiveRain, just do this:

Click on "HOME" select "REAL ESTATE AGENTS" by type, click on "ALL" at the top of the screen, then scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on the last page link 3754, then scroll to the bottom of that page, and that will show you who the most recent member is that has joined and their number. Here's what it looks like, and here's your member count:

#93572 Sally Smith Smith (Keller Williams): Real Estate Agent in Amboy, Blue Earth County, Minnesota

I think they are joining faster than our counter can keep track! haha..  :-)

The screen shot below and thehtml text is all you need. It goes at the very top of your post and then the html code at the bottom of this comment goes at the very bottom of your post.  Remember to be in HTML mode/tab when creating your Blog post:

Anytime you want to see the code of a blog post or webpage, go up to your browser's pulldown menu, select "view", and then select "page source" and it will show you the entire page or post in HTML.

MAKE SURE YOU END THE HTML CODE AT THE BOTTOM WITH THIS:

Brad - great post.  I truly enjoy being on ActiveRain; #2 is why I started in the first place, but #5 is why I keep coming back.  I taught a class yesterday in my office on getting started with ActiveRain - I wish I would have had your post to show the class; it's great!  I'm going to forward it to all of the agents who were in my class so they can see the value once again of being involved!  Thanks!

Missy - I hate to see anyone ever leave the rain, especially due to just a lack of understanding something.  Maybe she'll browse the neighborhood still and find this post.

You know Missy, sometimes it's just the little things around here too, for instance, your comments.

I post late at night, go to bed, and as sure as the sun rises the next morning, I have a comment from Missy Caulk!  EVERY SINGLE TIME!  Like clockwork!  I don't want you to ever think I take your comments or time for granted.  I hope you know how much that means to me that you take the time consistently to comment on every post I write. You are a TOP SHELF member and friend in my book Missy, and there's not much I wouldn't do for you to ever return the courtesy.  Thanks for always being here...every morning! lol~  :-)

Des - I  miss your name calling!  :-)  Miss you too.

We all knew on the back of our minds, thanks for putting it in text, good blog to go back to remind us of this great tool, and how we should utilize it.

Tatyana - AR is a very powerful tool, and also a fun and great place to be.  :-)

Brad,

I am really looking at blogging in a whole new light. AR really does open the rabbit whole to the Internet.  I like your impute and now I am doing some of my own studying on blogging. I have a couple questions.

1. On other blogs would you use something like googleblog or would you use a pay blog that is hosted.

2. I am curious on your opinioun on link exchanges. Do you think exchanging links is a good thing. Or will it be a negative or does it still work with the search engines. I know the one way like to your site is the best.

Steve - I would use the ActiveRain Outside Blogs with your own domain name now that they have been launched. Link exchanges can be both good and bad, it really depends on the specifics of how you are using them. Too many variables and gray areas to just say yea or nay.  Let me know the specific scenario and I'll tell you what I think about link exchanges for that scenaro. :-)

I guess now would be a good time to add ActiveRain Video, Outside Blogs and the New Loacalism. I thought these 10 were enough, but looks like there'll only be more to add to the list!  :-)

Brad For heavens sake...every time I turn around I see something else you have posted that I need to learn. Thank goodness for bookmarking. Ike is supposed to hit Texas Friday so it will rain all day in Austin on Saturday and I will have time to make a "dent" in my home work! I plan to send the link to some new members here in Austin to help them get going too!

Sonja - you have no idea, things will be a bit easier when we get the channels added in the next few days.  That will make it easier to find the topic related stuff you might be looking for here.

1:35am • #121

Russell - be safe my friend, and if you do some computer stuff during the storm, be careful that you don't get 2-3 hours into a post and then have the power go out, that can really ruffle some feathers, trust me, I know!

1:37am • #122

Aaron - that's so funny, mama used to always tell me when I was little that I was "So Full Of Excuses!" haha.
