Child and Pet Proofing Your Home a Must

Make sure your home is always pet friendly and kid friendly. Home is supposed to be where you feel safest, and the little ones and the furry ones need to be safe. Here are the areas where safety usually needs an upgrade. In most of our Highlands Ranch property management homes, Tenants usually have one or the other. So there have been a variety of ways that people child and pet proof their homes. Mostly the tenants will do that themselves, as everyone’s needs are different.

For Eating and Drinking you all know, children and animals have a bad habit of eating and drinking foods of substances they should not. You must keep a close eye on how all dangerous liquids and chemicals are being stored. Make certain that cleaning supplies, medications, and other chemicals are in places like the bathroom and under the sink or the garage in places where prying paws cannot reach, and prying hands cannot unlock. Best to use higher shelves, but any drawers that need to be secured should absolutely be fastened and restricted access. This goes without saying, but chocolate should never be anywhere where a dog could get to it. Always in high up drawers, never on the counter. Toilet lids should be closed if your dog is big enough o drink out of the toilet. You do not know what kind of residual chemicals may be in the bowl after cleaning. If you have a lot of house plants, you should be wary of any that could potentially be toxic. Dogs will chew on anything in reach, especially if bored and left to their own devices. You should eliminate any toxic plants and keep most house plants firmly out of the reach of children and animals. You never know if they will want to pull down on them, causing a mess, possibly ingesting it or shattering glass on the floor and making another hazardous mess to clean up.

If you have already child proofed your home, and it is ready for renters, go ahead and contact us for a Highlands Ranch property management consultation.
