Many Signs Of Re-Opening In The Charlotte Area During Safer-At-Home Phase
It's truly palpable how much the Charlotte area is re-opening during the past two weeks. For one, traffic has increased exponentially and parking lots in shopping areas are full again. Personally, it's been a great two weeks for me, as I've managed to get both a hair cut and a manicure/pedicure in the past 10 days.
Meantime, positive news from Raleigh... the Governor is considering opening up gyms and bars earlier than the originally planned date of June 24th. I, for one, can't wait for my gym to re-open.
More signs of Charlotte's re-opening include:
- Drive-in movies are back. Drive-in Movie Nights at Charlotte Speedway return June 6 and 7, hosted by the Charlotte Rescue Mission. Hound's Drive-in Theater is also open this weekend.
- More and more local restaurants have re-opened. You can't miss all the signs in front of restaurants saying "now open."
- The US National Whitewater Center is now open. Depending on the day, now-open activities include: whitewater rafting and kayaking, flatwater kayaking, the pine zipline, a handful of the ropes courses, jump stations, climbing, and mountain bike rentals, as well as hiking trails. You can also sit on the property and hang out. Visit usnwc.org for the daily activity schedule and food & beverage information.
- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library began a phased in re-opening June 1st. For information on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg library re-opening plan, click here.
- Home sales: home showings have caught up to last May's numbers and pending sales are up year-over-year. Real estate is expected to be a major driving factor in an economic turn-around in 2020 and in the Charlotte area, at least, this seems to be true.
- Retailers are busy... as stores like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Broadway Shoes, etc. have re-opened... it's obvious to the naked eye that sales are brisk. That's great news for the economy and for retail jobs.
Meantime, after almost two solid weeks of rain, often torrential, Charlotte has enjoyed a week of beautiful sunny days and blue skies! It seems that the universe approves!
