I always loved blue and white and yes, I am a fan of Delftware, the tin glazed earthenware which the Dutch developed in the 15th century to satisfy the market for rare Chinese porcelains.

hydrangeaSo it is only fitting that when I noticed that my blue hydrangeas were blooming, that I brought some inside and put them in a Delftware vase, along with some spiderworts.  I did this in spite of the fact that the spiderworts are really getting on my nerves. The darn things spread their seeds all over the place and I find they are crowding out many other plants in my garden. I have been either pulling them out or snapping off their tall stems daily. But that's another story.  Enjoy the blue and white!

How beautiful those look in your Delftware.  I love Hydrangeas too but they bother my allergies terribly.

Carolyn,

All three of my hydrangeas are a bright pink.  And they are all blooming.  I like your Delftware.  A

They say our acidic soil makes them blue, but not sure about that. Thanks, A!

I'm also fond of Delftware.  Several years ago, my daughter gave me a beautiful blue hydraengea.  However, ever since, it has only bloomed a deep pink.  I have tried a special fertilizer to make it blue once again, but it still hasn't done so.

Myrl-I know we have the right soil, and a neighbor used to tell me he put nails around his hydrangeas to turn them blue (haha). I haven't used MiraAcid in years, and they are still blue.

Good morning, Carolyn... I own a lot of Delft, including many antique pieces. Blue hydrangeas are my favorite and my hydrangea bush is a riot of blue flowers right now!

Nina--Isn't it great to live in a place where blue flowers grow without a second thought!
