Would you move for your pets?  Anyone who knows me knows my answer would be In a New York Minute!

Please take a few minutes to read this wonderful article written by Nina Hollander that expresses my sentiments exactly.  Although Nina is in Charlotte, the same holds true for Boca Raton.  Somehow pet lovers think alike!

Would You Move For Your Pet?

Are you one of the 43% of people who say they would move for their pet(s)? I guess our pets are often called "fur babies" for a reason. They are part of our families. I know mine are. I've never had to make a decision to move for one of my pets, but I have made decisions not to buy properties that didn't allow pets.

A recent survey by Mayflower Movers showed:

  • Pet priorities often are equal to or more important than human-focused amenities when  dog and cat owners decide on new homes and neighborhoods.

  • Cat and dog owners who have recently moved said their pet(s) influenced the choice of their new home by 39% and the choice of their neighborhood by 26%.

  • Cat and dog owners who plan to move said their pet(s) would influence their choice of home by 48% and their choice of neighborhood by 33%.

  • 50% of future home owners say pet-friendly featurs in their home would be a priority.

  • Survey respondenced also indicated a willingness to pay considerably more (up to 32% more than their current housing costs) and forgo perks (such as shorter commute, updated kitchens) in favor of pet-friendly features (such as fenced yard and more indoor space).

Whether you would move for your pet(s) or not, with the hot summer months approaching, don't forget to keep your "fur babies" cool and safe from overheating in the coming months.

Summer Pet Safety Tips

Summer has arrived in Charlotte... this week our temperatures will see a low of 86 and highs into the low 90's. No doubt we are talking a weather forecast that is HOT, HOT, HOT! And if it's hot for humans, it's HOT, HOT, HOT for our pets.

ASPCA's infographic below points out the 5 Summer Dangers For Pets, which include sun and heat, fireworks and thunderstorms, hot cars, toxic chemicals, and parties and barbecues. Following the safety tips outlined in this infographic will ensure that your pets enjoy a pawsitively great summer.

Summer Pet Safety Tips

Do You Know How Hot Your Car Gets?

Every summer we hear reports on the news about pets that have perished in a hot car or were rescued from a hot car. A car heats up very quickly in the summer heat... don't take chances with your pet by leaving it in the car for even a couple of minutes. If it's  90 degrees outside, for example, as it's been in Charlotte, your car heats up to 114 degreew within 10 minutes and to 129 degrees within 30 minutes. Don't think cracking your window open helps keep the car cool enough for your pet.

More Tips For Caring For Your Pet During Hot Summer Weather

  • Be sure to have plenty of water available for both your dogs and cats when it's hot as they can get dehydrated much more quickly. Be sure to carry water with you when out with your dog.
  • Don't leave pets unsupervised around your pool. If your dog swims in your pool, hose it off to remove chlorine and chemicals as soon as possible.

  • Keep pets off of hot pavement and asphalt as much as possible to keep their pads from burning.

  • Keep your pets protected against mosquito bites by not skipping on heartworm medicine in the summer months.

  • Don't shave your longer haired dogs thinking it will cool them off... it might instead cause them to be sunburned.
  • If you keep windows open in your home, be sure to install screens securely so that dogs and cats don't fall out.
  • Know the signes of heat stroke in dogs and cats.

Staying aware of these dangers to our fur babies will be sure to make the summer season a happy one for both pets and their parents.

Elyse immediately ‘got’ us

We found Elyse on-line after working with another realtor that was not helping us find what we wanted. Elyse immediately ‘got’ us and showed us the right properties while providing encyclopedic knowledge of neighborhoods, dog restrictions, lifestyle options and benefits/trade offs between one house/neighborhood and the other. Elyse consistently provided important information at every stage of our process. As out-of-towners this was essential to our making the right decision. We couldn’t be happier or more grateful to Elyse for everything she’s done. Elyse is a rare combination of being a true subject matter expert and, more importantly, a genuinely caring person who looks after her people.
