Who doesn’t love Linda Ronstadt? Why wouldn’t you?
Linda Maria Ronstadt was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. Like so many young artists she migrated to California. There she met fellow band members Bobby Kimmel and Kenny Edwards to create a folk-rock trio named the Stone Poneys.
The Stone Poneys had a major hit with the song Different Drum which put the young Rondstat on the map. She became the star of the band that later included Don Henley & Glenn Fry before they formed their own band, The Eagles.
Linda toured with other famous bands like The Doors, Neil Young and later, coming full circle, with The Eagles.
Sadly, in 2013 she was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease and stopped touring. Later her diagnoses was revised as Progressive Suprenuclear Palsy. The disease took away her sweet voice leaving us only her past performances.
On April 10, 2014, Linda Ronstadt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In July 2019, Ronstadt was selected as a Kennedy Center Honoree.
Ronstadt had so many hits that it was hard for me to choose. But for the Soundtrack I chose one of my favorites. Blue Bayou. A song that was first recorded by Roy Orbison in 1963. But Linda Ronstadt recorded her own version in 1977 and took the song to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it held for four weeks. The song was popular as a crossover charting to #2 on the Country and #3 Easy Listening charts. Her friend and former band member Don Henley of the Eagles sang backup on the 1977 recording.
In 1978, the single was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association. It was the first of three of Ronstadt's Gold singles. "Blue Bayou" was later certified as Platinum for selling over 2 million copies. It was a worldwide smash.
Ronstadt's version was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1977.
It is a lovely song that meshed perfectly with Ronstadt’s beautiful voice.
