I was one of the "oh so lucky" people who was called for Jury Duty last week in our County seat of Martinez. Now don't get me wrong I really don't mind doing my service and I am more than happy to put criminals behind bars even though trials can be very long and boring.  The thing is its June. June, June, June, one of the busiest months of the year for us stagers and to be called away from work to maybe sit on a jury for up to two or three months just doesn't work for me.

I tried my best to get it differed, but since I deferred already this year in April, another busy month, they were not letting me off this time. Therefore, I moved my appointments around and went in every day waiting for the moment that they would let me go. Every time they picked a new person to interview I would cross fingers on both hands and my toes and I would never make eye contact with the clerk.  I waited, and waited, and waited.  Three days of jury selection - it was excruciating. Meanwhile, I would  answer voice mails on the breaks and work on my lap top at lunch.  During one of these breaks I received a call from Randy a local Realtor who found me on Active Rain and wanted me to bid on a property!

It's so nice to know that even though I was doing almost nothing to generate business for those three days my Active Rain blog was still percolating business for me.

At the end of the third day at four minutes to 4:00 I was dismissed from service. I ran out the door, hopped in my car and met Randy the Realtor at the property.  Even though I was biding against another stager whose bid was less than mine, I got the job.  Randy like my profile and photos on Active Rain and could see that we do quality work.

Two days later we staged. Another success story right here on Active Rain!.

Hi Kym!  I've been sitting here reading a bunch of your blogs tonight.  I love all the inspiration!  Thank you.  I also got your email about the globes for the pond.  If you'll email me your address, one is on your way compliments of Brookside!  Someone from my office may have already called or emailed you about it, but I am in Disneyland for the week so I am a little out of the loop!

Kym ~ Ugh, I remember going for jury duty too.  I wasn't picked either, but just the sitting there for two days before we even got into a courtroom.  Glad to hear that your business was still working for you even though you couldn't actively do anything.  I really like that accent color you brought in.

Great job....pictures are worth...well, you know ! This is an expecially great forum for folks...realtors and sellers to find staging resources in their markets.  AND...I would think that it may say something to folks who just want to "feather their nest" with some decorating even if they don't want to sell at the present time.

I can understand completely why "Randy the Realtor" chose you and your company, Kym.  You're a professional in every sense of the word.

And I hear you on the AR leads as most of mine come from my blogs.

Great post.

Kathy

Connie - love it Percolating it Forward - I am using that... hope you don't mind.

Shanna - oh my you are so generous. I just love your fabulous products and this sphere is just fabulous. It's going to be in our main pond in the front of the house and I will make sure everyone knows where we got it http://www.stagerslist.com/detail.asp?id=920 and help you sell lots of them. Thank you. Next time let me know you are going to Disneyland I have a very dear friend who is a VP there and gets you all sorts of perks!

Lori - if you were not sitting next to me last night while I was typing this blog I am sure I would not have spelled percolate right! It's nice to have professional teachers a friends ha!

Kathy - we actually were in the court room the entire time so I couldn't even read or be on my computer...not my thing oh my.

Sally & David - so true. I am working on a large remodel for a lovely couple right now as well. I am a bit tired of granite slabs, but its going well.

Kathy  - that's great news that you get so many leads from A/R. I have no doubt you are one of my favorite bloggers. Chris' too :)

Glad you weren't picked for Jury Duty Kym.  That certainly would have put a major strain on things for you.  It's great that you were able to pick up a job even though you were incapacitated (so to speak).  Hurray Active Rain!  By the way, I LOVE the one robin's egg blue (at least it looks like that colour on my monitor) throw cushion that you added in - it looks terrific with the others!

Just LOVE the soothing color pallette and the movement from table to sofa to wall placed just so that you HAVE to notice the double windows!!  Superb!  Just goes to show - you get what you pay for.

Stage on, babe!

Hey Kym- I got called in for jury duty next Wednesday, and like you, I'd love to be of service, but that would wreak havoc with my staging business' busiest time of year! And how much will I pay attention, if I am thinking how much nicer the courtroom would look with a different shade of paint! ;) You did a fabulous job, those colors are so soft and appealing! Whatever would we do without PILLOWS???

Sounds like jury duty turned into a good thing with rain.  Almost makes you want to go back for more.

It really takes a talent to do what you do -- is it a vision that you think you could acquire or is it in-bred?!!

3:06pm • #22

Congrats!  Makes you want to be called for jury duty more often...could mean more business!  :)

Another success story here on Active Rain. Congratulations! That is very nice to hear. Glad that something good came out of Jury Duty. Great post.

That is a great story.  It always makes me happy when I get a contact from my website at a time when I am away from work.  It makes me feel my website is working for me 24 hours a day, even when I am spending time with my family.

Thats probably one of the best things about AR, it keeps your name out there online...just see how many AR webpages come up in google searches for home staging in a specific area!

Kym: Isn't it wonderful when the seeds we plant keep on growing untended when we are called away? Congratulations on your new job and new client. BTW, I love the mish mash of different colored pillows. It looks very fresh and eclectic.

Kym,

AR sure can bring in results, as your testimony proves. Of course, the more one blogs and participates, the better the results can be. AR has certainly carved itself a nice niche in the real estate and mortgage realms on the Internet.

Elaine - my thoughts exactly. Not only was I adding color to the court room in my mind, but I was giving the defense attorney, 1/2 the jurors and the clerks makeovers :) I am not even going to discuss the fabric on the jurors chairs ha!

Charlene - I hear you love love love those pillows.

Michelle - those are my favorite kind of seeds.

Thanks for the comments everybody. K
