Are You Driving With The Handbrake On?

Unsuccessful people often feel anxious. Why is that? They think anxiety is because they haven’t got the life they want. What’s funny is it’s the other way around. Anxiety is a “state” of emotion which clouds the mind and makes sound judgment almost impossible. Misunderstanding anxiety is what is holding back so many. When you are free of anxiety improvements in all areas of life can begin.

Arthur Somers Roche said “Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.” William James said “The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”

In today’s world there is so much SHOUTING trying to vie for your ear which contributes to mounting anxiety. The bolder the opinion the more people listen but in turn the more these opinions should be questioned. Many have become immobilized with fear and are driving with the handbrake on. They are questioning their every move, every decision and are not moving forward prospering in the new norm with all its challenges. I’ve made a conscious effort to tune out the noise and concentrate on what I can change and contribute to what I feel is meaningful.

Walking in the morning at the track at Canyon Creek Elementary clears my head and allows me to put events bombarding me into perspective. I rarely listen to the news and if I do I try and listen to different opinions to form my own conclusions (research and verify). It’s easy to REACT negatively to the SHOUTING but I’m reminded of what Deepak Chopra said, “Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.”

Every business model is going through transformations and ours is not an exception. More than ever consumers want to listen to someone who is a trusted resource. People are moving, relocating or need a change in their living accommodations because their home is now used for work, school and a gym! They need help from a Real Estate professional who can guide them through the process and give them relevant, rational and practical advice.

In order to effectively help I know I need to be the voice of reason, exhibit a positive outlook and genuinely care about serving my clients. This is the easiest thing I do and have fun doing it! Treating others with kindness and respect, while serving our clients best interest, is a great way to build mutual respect and client loyalty.

Grenville Kleiser said it best: “Good humor is a tonic for mind and body. It’s the best antidote for anxiety and depression. It is a business asset. It attracts and keeps friends. It lightens human burdens. It is the direct route to serenity and contentment.”
