Is It Odd that a 67 Year Old Man Loves Going to the Pumpkin Patch?!?

Sunday was the day...hot windy...dry and dusty.  Not your typical day at the Pumpkin Patch but our daughter was home so it seemed like a great time to go. Some of the fruits of labor are shown above!

I LOVE going to the Pumpkin Farm

I have great memories of when the kids were little and we would go and the fun they would have picking out their favorite pumpkin that usually turned into 3 or 4.

Even before as a young adult I worked at Helgoth's Melon Farm in St Libory, NE part time throwing melons and pumpkins and jawing with Buyers of fine home grown produce.

We always say we are going to get few pumpkins and then it turns into quite a few and then into the "back of the Suburban is full!!"  And so it was this time as well!  Love it!

This time they had rotated the pumpkin patch into a new area Robyn McCann fighting the Kochia Weeds for a great flat gourd! 2020 and the Kochia weeds were huge. A noxious weed that is hard to eradicate and hard on the body had taken over some of the many patches.

SO where were the best gourds and squash?  Yep...smack dab in the middle of the weeds!!

My legs look like they lost the battle (they did) ...imagine walking through a field of knee high stickers and sand paper...that is what it is like to walk through Kochia weeds.

But we got what we wanted...way more than we needed...and found a heck of a nice pair of extendable Fisker cutters laying in the field...and then 200 yards away as we were driving slowly by another vehicle...I overheard a little boy say I can't find them Dad and the dad asking where they used them last at.  I backed up and asked if they lost a pair of Loppers?  It was theirs...which made a little boy really happy!!

We proceeded to another patch and a bit later...my daughter...who worked at the city library for years part time while going to college...saw a former co-worker...so I backed up and they were trying to take a photo so Jaime jumped out and took an Sarah Haack familyawesome family photo with sunflowers in the background!  A keepsake for that family forever.  What a random encounter in a pumpkin patch...or was it?

I am a firm believer that many things are simply meant to be...and that was one of them.

When I see a photo like this one...it takes me back to the days when that was us in the photo...with our son and daughter...and it makes my heart warm and eyes dusty.

When I saw this photo Jaime had taken of the Haack family I felt like we were right where we were supposed to be at that particular moment.

I hope they understand someday how their family photo impacts others not only now but in the future!!

SO I guess I answered the question I posed at the start... NO...it isn't odd that a 67 year old man likes going to the pumpkin patch...in fact he should go more often!! And take his camera.

Until Next time...if you are near one...go to the patch and enjoy the happiness that is spread there!

Taking my girls to the pumpkin patch was one of my favorite things to do with them when they were little....now they're grown and go with their significant others and are continuing to make those special memories :)
