I finally had to do it.  Being a single parent and trying to stay in Real Estate has been a challange.  I had a part time job which is now my full time job.  My dream is on the back burner but I am not done.  For those in this situation I will be optimistic that things will get better and hang in there.  It is tough and the way things are wtih the economy I do not think it will be an easy road for some time.

Some bloggers on AR have said there areas have picked up, which is good.  Sioux City seemed to roll along with the Mortgage crisis.  We held our own during the winter months and patiently waited for Spring.  Spring came with a whimper and not a bang.  As gas prices went up and other necessities went up in price too, I found myself close to financial ruin.  I had to make the hard choice to go full time at my retail job.  I am on my feet all day running around and when I get home can barley move.  I have neglected AR and other duites associated with Real Estate.  Talking with others I found that I wasn't the only one feeling the pinch.  Realtors with a Spouse who makes good money are feeling it too.  I am not alone, which in a weird sense is comforting.

I am keeping my license active and will take the opportunity to get those classes done that need to be done.  I waited a long time to do this and I will not give up that easily.  I still hope to do this full time and leave retail behind.

You're not alone!!  Keep your foot in the door, watch the market...when it starts to pick up again, you'll be ready to jump back into it full force!

In the meantime, no one can blame you for being financially responsible and doing what you have to, to support your family!  And take every opportunity to make some connections at your retail position too!

Best of luck, I know what a hard decision this is to make.

Michele - one has to do what one has to do, do not listen to those who would criticize you for your decision, and its good that you are taking advantage of the time to continue your education. It takes a strong person to hang in in the manner that you are doing. Take the oportunity to build a presence on the web. I wish you well

As noted above, you are not alone. I think clients respect the fact that you are doing what you have to do.  Stay in contact with your clients, do an open house when your feet are killing you and you will feel still connected.

Blessings!

Good luck Michelle, You are doing what is right for you and your family. As for Real Estate, it will get better, so keeping up on classes and actually trying to take a listing or two part time, or work with one buyer at a time will keep you in it. This too shall pass:)

Michele,

I wish you the best of luck.  Keep that REALTORS license polished.  Do you have any idea how many people you will meet in the retail business.  Reverse the process until your market is booming again.  Do retail and talk real estate and do that on the side.  Identify yourself and take advantage of the exposure.  I know, everyone disparages part time REALTORS, but we do what we have to do.  Good Luck.

Hang in there, things will get better again. You're smart to do what you need to but keep your RE license.

Michelle:  Try to stay positive.  Real estate is a tough career for people right now.  My market is one that seems to have picked up, though I know there are Realtors in my office that we have recently lost to the market.  Keep feeding your database with the people you're meeting out there at the retail job.  If you do, your real estate career will pick back up.

Hi Michele...There have been others that have done exactly what you have done.  Some have moved on to other careers that they found even more rewarding while a good number came back to real estate when the market improved.

If you really like real estate, when the market gets better there will be a spot for you.  Until then take good care of yourself.

Continue to keep up on the profession.  You have the Rain and all of us to help you there.

Will you be doing referrals?
