Feliz Dia de los Muertos Day
November 1, 2020
The Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos, is a popular holiday in Mexico (and elsewhere). It’s an ancient tradition to celebrate, not mourn, the lives of loved ones who have passed, with personal altars, music, favorite foods and beverages of loved ones, visits to the cemetery with flowers, and sharing stories and memories.
Dia de los Muertos is traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2 and even longer, depending on where the festivities take place. Today, November 1, is the Catholic holiday of All Saint’s Day and tomorrow is All Soul’s Day.
We have good friends (he is from Mexico) that have an annual gathering for Dia de los Muertos (a.k.a. Dia de Meurtos) at their daughter’s home in Cardiff, and we have attended multiple times. There are usually about 100 or so friends and family there, tons of food (both catered as well as appetizers and desserts brought by guests), live music, and make-up artists for those interested in having their faces painted…a tradition.
Here was mine in 2018.
There was no gathering this year, for obvious reasons, but I thought I would share a few photos from past events. Enjoy!
