In a recent discussion I got to pointing out how some in the real estate industry were not hard working types. We all have different goals and who am I to judge? That got me to feeling bad about myself. Then one pointed out to me that there were many hard working REALTORS and despite all the hard work, at times due to down economic cycles, it could be a tough go of it certain years. Now I really felt bad.
So in a reverse motivation sort of way I wanted to praise all the hard working REALTORS out there and point out one thing I know they have in their hearts about this business. And that is PASSION! They are the types who
DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY.
You remember, dance? That's the thing you do with your dance partner and your tippy toes and feel the rhythm and all that jive! People with passion, like in dance, LOVE what they do. I so admire it. They love life. They put life into what they do. You can see it in their eyes. There is a sparkle. There is an energy. It is a feeling that you love to get out there and do it. I've heard people with high passion say, I can't believe they actually pay me to do this.
So know if you find a person with passion they will naturally be a hard worker. Tip your hat to them, because they are very much aligned with what's in their heart.
Their type so impress me all the time. I'm going to go up to them and ask for the next dance.
GAry - Well, my son says I dance like Elaine Benes (Seinfeld). But, I don't really care. I will say, that at our C21 tr-county awards dinner my entire office danced the night away after coming away with many awards that night. I had the fun task of being the deignated driver - I need to blog about the night I drove a drunk associate home! But we did dance that night as pasionately as we work hard, we played hard too!
Susan: You got in first. I know dance is your specialty area. It would be my pleasure ; )
Vickie: Cool, the dance card is filling out... passion is amazing when you see it and feel it.
Carol: I love that you dance like Elaine from Seinfeld. Hey, that didn't stop you from dancing the night away. You should write about that drunk associate. That has to be another great Carol story in waiting.
Amanda: That quote is such a good one, and the way to live! Glad Linda Scanlan is working with you. What a good one for your office.
Hi Gary, enjoyed your post and the video. I have always loved dance...perhaps, because it can be such a wonderful way to express movement and passion for life.
Lola: Dance is great. With some of the shows on TV like Dancing with the Stars, I think it is making a BIG comeback. Glad you have found this a way to express your passion.
Gary, Wow, I'm about 5th in line now. I love the analogy and I love dancing.....and there is a passion in it for sure (and, if you've very lucky, a passion for what you do).
Gary great analogy, yes many are passionate about the business even if the market is down. I would be the one stepping on your toes so I will just watch from the sideline.
I know I have the passion but my wife would like me to learn to dance and not just shuffle my feet around. I love music, played in band, orchestra, dance bands, etc. in school and out. I just have a hard time getting the beat to my feet. Great post. Thank you.
Mel: A great line you came up with ~ work hard, play hard. Very appropriate!!
Wayne: Maybe taking the dance lessons is all you need to step it up to the next level. I actually did some country and western lessons awhile back but would like the formal steps of the other dance categories too. It's really a lot of fun if you go into it with an open mind.
Dance lessons didn't work. After 3 consecutive dance instructors telling me not to try anything els, I went back to dragging my feet around the floor. They tried letting me hold onto their hips (they were ladies) which was pretty fun especially at the time as I was single again, but as soon as I let go, back to dragging the feet.
Hey did you know there is a group for Realtor/Dancers on AR? I actually posted looking to see if there were any in the Phoenix East Valley. No answers tho. So if I can sell RE and have the fun I do when I ballroom dance, that's a great combo.
GREAT analogy, Gary! Looks like there are many that are physically in line before me--I'm a bit late reading this post--but, I'm a dancin' fool and will patiently wait my turn! Just like our business, patience is a virtue if you are to be successful; we must work even harder in the down times and pull through. Those who don't...well, you know where I'm going with this!!
Debe: I love dancin' fools. Shows you got that mojo, that passion. Good for you. The heck with all the slackers I say. I saved a spot on the floor with you. I always love people with passion. They truly inspire me!

Are you asking? I'm ready. Let's hit the dance floor and we'll will see who leads and who poops out first. Want to wager on that cowboy? Better not put your life savings on it if you think it is YOU! :-)
Pat: I have no doubt you are a great dancer, and most likely would wear me out on the dance floor. But if you ask me to the floor or the other way around, I get to lead. Cowboys always lead Cowgirls. It's in the rulebook (at least the Texas one) : )
