Fall Has arrived in Connecticut, which means it is time for my Progression Of Fall Colors series I started Nine years ago. This is a series I hoped to continue for many more years to come, and have been able to do so far. The first two years the pictures were of a farm which is only about a minute walk from my house. Seven years ago I decided to change the location for the 2014 Progression Of Fall Color Series to a lake about 5 minutes from my house on RT17. I tried that location for two years, but the colors were not as good as I expected them to be. Five years ago I decided to change locations again to a site on Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield, CT. But once again that site did not produce the colors I had hoped for, so two year ago I decided to keep it simple and do my Progression of Fall Colors blog of my back yard, and will continue to do so again this year.
The first picture above of this year's Progression Of Fall Colors series was taken six weeks ago as colors were starting to change. But by the second week, as you can see in the picture to the left there was already some change in color.
Four weeks ago the change in color was more noticeable as you can see in the picture below and to the right. Three week ago in the picture below and to the left, the change in colors had increased, as well as the trees shedding more leaves.
Two weeks ago the change of color and the amount of fallen leaves happened much quicker. So I posted 3 pictures pictures at the end of this blog under the title 6th Week to show the rapid progress in just one week.
Last week was a very gloomy raining week with some wind, so most of the leave have now fallen as evident in the two pictures under the title 6th Week. Also Friday, as you can see in the 3rd picture under the title 6th Week, we had our first snow fall for this Winter. We got lucky it was only about an 1" and did not do much harm, unlike the snow fall we had in October a few years ago, where we got several inches of snow, and were without electricity for 5 days.
This week there has been very little change from the beginning of the week to the end of the week, as you can see in the two pictures under the title Seventh Week.
By the end of next week most of the trees will have lost whatever few leaves they have left, and will be ready for the Winter snow. The last
picture below under the title Winter, is what my backyard will look like after we have our first major snow fall.
Anyone planning to come to New England to enjoy our Fall colors at their peak, should plan on coming between the last two weeks in October to the beginning of November. However, as you can see from the pictures I have provided, the trees have turned color earlier than normal this year, and have already reached their peak.
We are at the end of Fall here in Middletown, Connecticut, and this blog will bring my 2020 Progression of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT. I hope you enjoy all the pictures in this 2020 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT. Series. I look forward to sharing our Fall Colors again next year, and find it hard to believe it will be my 10th year of doing this series.
