"I followed my heart and it led me to the freezer."
Today I am thankful for my new freezer. My previous freezer was circa mid 1970s, so probably about 45 years old. It survived 5 moves and was a reliable servant.
Over the years, the door seal dried out and the door wouldn't stay shut. Initially, I put a gallon jug of water in front of the door to hold the door shut. I considered spending the money to hire someone to replace the seal but then I got to thinking considering it's age I wasn't sure how long it would last anyway. In the end, I decided not to bother with investing money in a service call and opted to spend the money to buy a new freezer.
The caveat was, with the pandemic, the factories weren't manufacturing parts so I had to wait over 3 months.
I'm excited to have the new freezer now and it is well stocked with all kinds of good food. I often make homemade soups and put them in individual containers for a quick meal.
I gave the old freezer to a nice young couple that was super excited to get it. I made full dislosure about the door seal and they said it was no problem to replace it. A win / win.
Good morning Carol. Had a similar situation with a refrigerator lately. The wife likes the new one. Enjoy your day!

Hello Carol - I am amazed at the longevity of some appliances, it's good to hear such stories of reliability. It reminds of what we sometimes see in older homes where appliances/systems are maintained and have a useful life long beyond what otherwise might be imagined. Proper maintenance matters and so does a thoughtful original purchase.

Eventually it's time for a new device. Good for you for hanging onto it for so long.
By the way, we wanted to buy a standalone freezer this summer and also had a very hard time. We bought one from craig's list which only lasted a few months. Then we tried to order one and had a very hard time until we decided to get a smaller one that what we really wanted. We still had to wait about 6 weeks but it finally arrived. Phew!

Hi Nina Hollander
I sure wish I could recall what price I paid for the original freezer. It would be a fun fact. I don't have any visions of this one lasting as long but I don't need it to. 20 years should do me. LOL

Hi Grant Schneider
A boiler system? Gosh I haven't heard that term for years. Maybe that's because I live in hydro power country. What is your fuel source? Water? Glycol? As for saving energy, that is true but not a big factor in this part of the country. We run everything on electricity since we have the least expensive hydro-power in the entire nation.
Hi Brian England
The freezer comes in handy doesn't it? I like to buy stuff at Costco and, as you know, you can't get much of those sizes in a regular refriger/freezer.

Hi Wayne Martin
The waiting time on new appliances has been long, at least in this part of the country. Perhaps that is easing a bit now.
Hi Michael Jacobs
I don't have any expectations of this one last as long as the original. But, as I mentioned above to Nina, I don't need it to. I don't plan to live another 45 years. That would make me 113. LOL It'll probably last for my lifetime.

Hi Kat Palmiotti
Your waiting experience sounds like mine. The freezer I ended up with turned out to be smaller than I ordered but it's fine. It's just me now, so I don't need a huge one.
Carol-I haven't had a freezer since being on the road which I dearly missed. I found one on Amazon before coming back to Arizona and had it delivered to have it here when I arrived last month. It is only a 1.1 cu. but it perfect size for my little trailer and actually has a decent amount of space.

That is a win/win Carol Williams . I love those homemade quick meals in the freezer! It is that time of year for soups and chili
I am surprised you could even get a new freezer without a 3-4 month wait.
I am told there is an appliance shortage. I am now waiting 3 months for my new refrigerator/freezer. Praying the one I have will keep working until the new one gets delivered.

Hi Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist
I think I got on a priority list because I am good friends with the sale persons mother. She gave me the family discount too. I will pray also that your refrigerator/freezer holds up until the new one arrives! I've heard from more than one person who has been without for an extended period... Nina Hollander included.

Thanks, Rocky Dickerson
I could have sold that old freezer 100 times but I felt good about giving it to a nice young couple who needed it.

You're so funny - you are so funn!!!!!!!!!!! "I followed my heart and it led me to the freezer."
I made a similar decision about replacing rather than repairing on an extra refrigerator I have in my garage. Sometimes repair doesn't pencil well. I like your title line, Carol.
Morning Carol.
We haven't had a freezer in such a long time. Great story, thanks for sharing
Hi Carol Williams - here in the cold northeast the main source of fuel is oil or gas. Ours is an oil burner. The boiler heats water for baseboard heat which is the best and most even heat in our area. The other type is forced air with the same fuel sources. Forced air is called a furnace and hot water is called a boiler. There are also steam boilers in older buildings.
