Quarterly statistics are in for property sales in Honolulu County for the 1st quarter of 2008. Median sales price dropped just a bit from the 4th quarter of 2007, but was steady with the 1st quarter of last year. The number of sales dropped quite a bit, 22% compared to the 1st quarter of last year. The feeling in Honolulu is that while sale prices may dip a little more, interest rate will be going up. Over the next year, it is likely that the monthly cost of a home will increase due to the interest rate increase, even with a small decrease in home prices. The long and the short of it is that it is an excellent time to buy a home on Oahu. The inventory is high and interest rates are still near all time lows.
