During the past week the Lakes Region of New Hampshire has been filled with motorcyclists for the annual Laconia Bike week. This nine day rally is the oldest and one of the largest biker rallies in the country. Crowds as large as 420,000 attend and according to RKM Research the 9 day rally generates more than 175 million in local revenue.

Although the rally is in the Lakes region--about 45 minutes south of us--the bikers make thier way up to North Conway for a tour through the scenic mountain notches and for some, the annual trek up to the top of Mt. Washington, the tallest mountain in the north east and home of the world's worst weather (wind speed world record of 231 miles per hour!).

This year, our local chamber of commerce decided it was time to get in on the action and they created the "Rally in the Valley" in the hopes to draw more of the bikers (and thier cash!) up to the Mt. Washington Valley. The event has been a success with nearly all area businesses participating by offering "two for one" dinner specials or coupons/deep discounts for retail or service sales.
