I spent the last two days in a classroom in Durham, NC in a CRS 206 Technology Course taught by a fabulous instructor, Mike Selvaggio,  from Delaware.  In preparing this post I stumbled upon Allen Hainge's post, the famous Cyberstars creator, called CRS Courses: Another Big Advantage! and it dawned on me.  I should have traveled to take the course in an area where people are moving to my area from.  For example, we have thousands of people moving to the Triangle from Florida. I mean,  who wouldn't want to spend a few days in, say, Miami? Well it's too late now but I might try that next time. At least now I have a good excuse.

The attendees in my classroom did come from all over North Carolina so there is still an opportunity for referrals. Many of the most experienced agents in the class brought impressive referral postcards and brochures on their cababilities!!  Allen Hainge says to bring a virtual tour CD of your area and include your referral policy in the CD!  Absolutely Brilliant!!  My idea is to be a poster child for Activerain and tell everyone I meet about it, invite them, and get them involved! What a great opportunity.

If any of you have met "techy" people they are resistent to taking classes like these because they think they've already got their bases covered.  Sharon Kowitz, from my office, encouraged me to get going on my Council of Residential Specialists designation and this was the first class offered in my area.  I am now an official member thanks to Mike My CoachAnd, although I'm a techy already I found a number of tips from Mike that I can use.  I also realilze that I really need to spend some time beefing up my Contact Management system too!

The CRS classes are wonderful.  I just completed Pat Zaby's CRS class on Marketing with Microsoft Office.  It is truly the first class I've taken in a long time that I wasn't bored in.  Check it out Tracy and do it out-of-town ... I came away with so many new friends in a new area.

That's a great idea Tracy.  I've been networking in classes for years but never thought to bring materials to market other REALTORS.  Thanks for the tip!

I spent about year getting my CRS...I had to put off the last class because I wanted to take the listing course and it is only given rarely here in FL...all things good...once you get it it's all joy!

Hey Neal - My goal is to be done by November! Once I set my sights on a goal I strive to achieve the goal in a determined timeframe.  The listing course is high on the priority list! Other than reading Broker Bryant's blog I think a class would be fantastic!

I'm considering this designation, but as you say - I am already far more techy than anyone in my office and I use a Mac. I find MS Office to be very behind in user friendliness. How much is this going to be helpful to someone like me?

Btw... Kudos to you for pursuing further professional development! Mwa!

Tracy - Thanks for the input on this course. It's been more than 10 years since I took a CRS course, and the tech ones sound like a great opportunity to learn some more. I highly recommend the listing course, and definitely agree to take the course in a different marketplace.

Tracy,
I will have to do it sooner or later, I love to learn and share my knowledge to others, thanks for the tip.

I will have to check out this designation...did you learn a lot?

Still waiting for my TAMPA Link LOVE, from Cary NC .... :D

Tracy - I find that no matter how much I think I know, I also benefit from classes.  Going to a class also provides a great networking opportunity and you get a chance to see what other agents are doing.  Sounds like you are off to a good start.

Tracy:  What a totally cool idea....go take a class in another city......I kind of did that when I was getting my GRI....as one of the Modules was in Savannah, so did meet people from around the state. I wanted to go to the Inman Connect Conference next month in SFO, but sales are not what they use to be....Bummer!

Thanks again!

I am a huge fan of CRS organization, their annual convention and their courses.  I once remember hearing Ralph Roberts say that taking the CRS courses was the best thing he has ever done besides being born and I agree with him regarding the quality of the courses and the instructors.

Excellent idea about going to Miami next time!  I don't  know about the cd or dvd to give out though. If it were me receiving it, I'd throw it away cuz it takes time to view.  Quick and simple is my motto!  Is a CRS designation really worth all the dough?  Just curious.  Thanks for another interesting post!

Tracy,  I just took the CRS Tech class in Clemont Florida,  I live in New York and thought it would be great to take a class far away and in a market that is hurting more than mine.  To get ideas how to market and be ahead of the curve.  I always try to take on in another state.  This is my third time in the pst 17 years taking the Tech class it always changes.  Great thinking

Cathleen - the verdict is out and I'll let you know about the ROI.

Tracy!  Kristy Dunphy recently suggested having a small run of cards printed for events like this that you can hand out that say, "Met at XYZ Seminar - looking for referrals to Triangle!"  I thought that was a great idea too - because you could direct them to your BLOG - and not just your site!  Thanks for the reminder!

Leave it to Eleanor to be creative or listen to others ideas!  Thanks for the feedback! I just love collaborating with open minded, progressive lenders like yourself.

Thanks for the kind words Tracy and yes, you should try to take a class wherever people are moving from to your area.

ALso, spread out your courses. Be sure to allow enough time to implement what you learn BETWEEN classes. As you know, there are lots of ideas in the classes, so we must pick the few that are right for each of us and implement them.

Hope to see you in an upcoming CRS or Ninja class. (Ninja III will be out this year. We already are booking it in New Mexico in December and next July in Anchorage. THAT is as great time for an ALaskan adventure!!!)

Join us!!

CRS classes are excellent.  They even count toward re-licensing hours in our area.  If every Realtor and Broker attained  a CRS and GRI .... all of our jobs would be so much easier.

I've heard some wonderful reviews of the CRS courses. Its on my list of "to-dos" but haven't gotten there yet :O

Thanks for sharing it with us :)

Hi Tracy,

Thanks for the post about the class. Was the course material fairly up to date? I have been more than satisfied with my CRS courses in the past.

Thanks!

Tracy~ I have attended several CR classes and enjoyed them tremendously.  And you're right, some people have great marketing materials that they pass out.  Love Eleanor's idea as well!

Thank you Tracy! I am considering myself taking the class! You always have to learn! Times change, circumstances change, you have to always be ready to apply the latest information and knowledge available to make things happen! Beside CRS provides another way to network with a group of agents that are in the same level as you!

I flew from SLC to Cary NC to take CRS 201 with Chuck Brody.  There do seem to be a lot of people going back and forth from Utah and NC.  My daughter lived in Cary so I got to take a great class, visit my daughter and write it off.  I am now a CRS but I plan to continue to take the courses as I have found them to teach the best information of any I have taken before.

Getting my CRS designation was one of my goals for this year.  I need the technology information.

Team Honeycut,

It's a great class. I also just finished up CRS200 today! One more and I'll be done! Yeah!
