Last week I was feeling dissed by the Realtor--what a difference a week makes. As usual, I learned more about myself, and this business of home staging being a team effort ,than I did about anything else. Mainly, I learned not to be a hothead who is overly protective of my own position. In the corporate world I was designated as an IC (individual contributor) because of my inclination to tackle a job with the force of a 300 lb. full back. This is my third reiteration, or metamorphosis, and this time I will get it right. Home staging is a TEAM effort and the team includes the homeowner, the realtor and the stager. We all have our part to play , especially now in a slowing market, to make all part of the machinery work together to get things moving forward by getting houses sold.
I took all of the comments from AR to heart on this matter and, sure enough, things do get better. I better understand that the Realtor was not opposed to my service, they just did not know about it. This job, if I do it right, will convince them, and the firm they work with, that home staging is a progressive and valuable tool and is profitable for everbody. As a study in the psychology of team building this has been fascinating to watch. Its a dance where the parties step aside, compromise and take up new positions. The homeowner, the realtor and I have all had to give in on some positions to move closer to the goal line----the sale. The realtor open house takes place next Tuesday and shortly thereafter the public open house. I am very sure the house will sell quickly.
More (time and money) has been put into this home staging than I anticipated, and more than I will be paid to do, but it is worth it to see the results. It has been a chance to, once more, put my belief that you cannot give it all away, to the test.
it is amazing what we learn about ourselves while doing business. Good for you - for doing the job right and not taking it personally.
