Pumpkin disposal tips

It’s that time of year again, when you wonder what do with your decorative pumpkins. Here are a couple of ideas.

Open up your jack-o-lanterns and put them on your lawn, under a tree. The squirrels *love* them and will literally eat them until there's nothing left. Bonus if the tree is something you can see from a desk or your kitchen. Makes for great, entertaining distraction. :-)

You can also compost them. PG County will pick up pumpkins and other bio-degradable decorations like dried corn, hay and straw with curbside collections on Mondays in November. The remaining dates are November 16th, 23rd, and 30th.

Pumpkins do not need to be bagged, but paper brown bags must be used if you choose to bag your items. Make sure you do not include artificial items like candles, wax, lighting, and loose decorations.

If you don’t live in PG County, Maryland, check with your local jurisdiction.
