Break The Chains That Bind You!!

Are you running a business, or do you just go to work every day? There’s a big difference.

You don’t need to be the Broker/Owner/Manager to run a business. The problem with the majority of agents is their train of thought.

Most think they work for a company. Agents work for themselves. They may need to hang their “shingle” at an office because they are not licensed as a Broker, but they are in business for themselves.

When an agent has that mindset, the sky is the limit. Forget about the office and marching to their drummer. March to your own at their office, but within the guidelines of your state.

If there are rules within that office that are binding you, break those chains.  No one should work with chains binding their actions and ability to make money.

When worked properly, the real estate business can reap rewards that are unbelievable. Agents can make a bundle and should. From what I’ve seen, most do not and it’s their own fault.

Just a quick thought….many won’t like it, but it’s good advice!!!

Hello Barbara - it's about mindset.  This is especially true in the hiring process where people who previously worked(and often very diligently and successfully) as an employEE not as an entrepreneur.  There is a difference.  And that difference matters.

Agents who talk about working for a brokerage and in terms of their "paycheck" drive me nuts, Barbara. I'm forever correcting agents and saying you don't work for a brokerage... you are affiliated with a brokerage... and that brokerage better be working for you.

Barbara, I agree 100% with you. Yes, salespereson's license is just a type of license, as the Broker license is another type. You are in business for yourself. And that mindset is very helpful to have.

"Amen", We must have the right mindset and drive whether we're a broker or agent to succeed. You nailed this one wish I had it when I started 18 years ago. Have yourself a warm safe November day.

Mindset is key to success! We are all owners of our own real estate business, regardless of who we hang our license with. Great message.

I have never been a broker, but I have always known that I am running my own business.  When people ask me what I do for a living I tell them that I own a real estate company.

Hi Barbara this is very true and I've been saying this for years.  I was taught this mindset as long many years ago. The GRI series is about running your own business and I think is a good place for agents to receive business knowledge.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker I was always a fan of designations....had 9 of them.... and GRI was my very first one...I kept them all active for decades....everyone told me I was nuts to continue to pay dues every year.... that made me smile... it was the dues that kept those groups going.... I thought of it as a good investment....

Great perspective Barbara. It amazes me how many agents don't realize that simple point.

Barbara good point.  Anyone who only receives commission income is totally responsible for their own income.  They are not beholding to anyone but themselves.

BarbaraT- once again...well said. And I love Nina Hollander comment. If you have the "I work for a broker" mindset you will always be working for someone else.
