Jump In, The Water's Fine!OK Newbies, here's how it's going to be.  You can only lurk so long.  You can only read other's people's posts for so long.

Oh.  Wait, that's not right.  Do over -- you can read other people's blogs all you want -- and there is not going to be a perfect moment when you are "Ready" to jump into Active Rain and become a Blogger yourself.

Take the plunge.  You have something to say.  You have worth.  You are doing an important job and what you have to say about it is just as important as anything any of the rest of us have to say.

I went from lurking to blogging because Marc Blasi told me to.  Marc said, "OK Newbies, Time to Get Active ... " (Marc, just look what you started!!)

It wasn't that what he had to say was magical, it just needed to be said.  I needed someone to tell me I could do it, that it was OK if it wasn't perfect and that if someone didn't agree with what I had to say -- big deal.

I did it.  I'm still doing it.  I'm loving it.  Thanks, Marc.

So here's a kick in the pants to the Newer Newbies.  There is nothing to fear.  It's only blogging.  Don't take it too seriously.

You're already ready already.  Go forth and blog.  Then come back and tell me about it.  Did you do it?  I want to know so I can go say Hi to you.  :o)

Hey Sarah - very cute and hopefully this will really encourage the lurkers to take the plunge!

TAKE THE PLUNGE!!  The water's fine and no dangerous creatures underwater either!!   ;-)

I must be a lurker. I like reading everyones blogs and learning from them, but am a little hesitant to keep up with a blog. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

Sarah, you've been busy!  Have I really been gone that long?  This is a great post.  I agree that the best thing to do is just take the plunge.  You're a great example.  You're an old pro at this already.  Congrats!

03/12/2007 11:26 AM by Palmetto Bay | Redland Real Estate | Maggie Dokic (EWM Realtors)

Alexander - LOL!!  Love it!  And THANKS for subscribing!!  :o)

Michael - So THERE you are!  I KNEW there was someone lurking around here!  You must be the one I wrote this blog for -- Michael, Go Forth and Blog.

Maggie!!  How did it go today???  I have been busy.  I don't know why I keep posting one right after the other.  I don't give time enough to read.  I'll hold back.

Hey Sarah, I am now feeling mighty guilty because I wonder if some newbies are using "Posting With Intention" as an excuse to lock up the brakes. Hopefully your post will get them in. The water's fine.

Hi Sarah,

I fell right into the loop of things and have been rambling since I joined (yesterday I think it was lol). What I find MOST amazing is that I've learned MORE in the 24 hours I've been a member than I EVER learned during the first 6 months of my career :)!

Psst - I changed brokerages in January and really starting to get comfortable. Finding Active Rain was the best thing that could have happened and well --- I'm officially an AR-Addict.

Sarah, you are so sweet and welcoming...you make everybody feel great, I bet the veterans too!

03/14/2007 08:32 AM by Sue Argue - NH Home Stager (Staged First Impressions)

Irene - No guilt about your excellent post -- it needed to be said and you did it well!  I don't think it will discourage anyone, just make them think about what they're trying to accomplish.  It's all good!

Jennifer - Yay!!!  I'll have to stop by and say Hi!

Sue - Thank you so much!  I hope this helps, I don't like it when the Newbies feel stomped on.  They're really such sweet Newbies ... LOL!  And there isn't a single person here who wasn't a Newbie once, too.

Good for you!  I've linked a few blog advice resources on my blog sidebar. My favorite is by Tony Pierce and his tips of How to Blog.

Sarah,

Thanks for welcoming us "newbies" to Active Rain - I'm like a kid in a candy shop  - it's just great - a little addicting though - anyone else having trouble getting away from the computer - I lookup and time has flown by.

I have a questions - How do you wirite next to photos when you add then to your blog. I seem to always have my text written under the picture - I really like the way it looks when there's a column next to it. I realize this may not be the "correct" blog to ask this question of - but being new and since you asked...that's my newbie question for today.

jedijawa - Thanks for stopping by!

Cyndee - You're very welcome!  And I have contacted you about adding pictures, hope I was able to help.

Renee - I went to your blog to peek -- ???  Don't be shy!  I'll check again later.  Nothing to fear here, Rainers are friendly and we have ALL been Newbies.

Hi Sarah.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am still sooooooooooooooo new to ActiveRain and blogging that I feel like a fish out of water. I find that I spend most of my time reading all the excellent posts that contain an enormous amount of insight and information. I agree with Jennifer Martin, I too have learned more in the last 24 hours here on ActiveRain than I learned in my first 6 months as a Realtor. I have posted a couple of times and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Before ya know it I will be bloggin away and posting all the time. Thanks again.

Hi, Lisa!  You're very welcome!  I think you're going to be just fine.  There is a LOT to learn here but I think each and every person has a lot to contribute.  That's one of the great things about this community -- everyone brings something a little different to the table.  Even though we're doing the same kind of stuff, we all have a slightly different take on it and so we can all teach and learn.  I think you'll do great and can't wait to see what you have to say!

Sarah:  Thanks for the encouragement.....it is more fun than stalking :)

03/16/2007 12:42 PM by Heather Armstrong (Iowa Realty)

I'm in my first 24 hours of blogging (thank God it fell on a weekend!) and I haven't been this interested in a website since myspace and my own personal website!

The biggest challenge (among of myriad of other things) is that people in my local industry does not want to share what they know.  I don't get it.  Somebody had to help each and everyone of us to get where we are, and it's gonna take someone else to help us get to where we're going!

People make the world go round, and I just appreciate the diverse group of people that share their expertise, and wisdom of how to imporve their lives and in return, their business!

This is really helping cure what I thought was "writers block".

03/17/2007 11:31 PM by Toya Condelee (Exit Realty Results)

Hi, Heather!  Stalk no more, you blogger, you!

Hi, Toya!  THIS is the place for you!!  I'm so glad you found Active Rain because you're going to get the advice you've been thirsting for!  That is one of the weird things about real estate, no one wants to share.  I was taught to share.  It goes against my grain not to, so I do anyway.  If I can help you, just let me know and I'll give it a try.  Glad to have you here.

I have always considered myself tech savy, but I think I quickly became a dinosaur.  This whole blogging thing scares me to death!  So... here it goes!  Thanks for the encouragement!

Hi, Rick!  Thanks for stopping by and helping to encourage the Newbies!

Hi, Ginger!  No fear, it's only a blog.  (And there IS a delete button in case of emergency.)

Yay, Victor!  Way to go!

You're very welcome, Nick.  You're right, the more you use this site, the more you will gain from it.

Sarah, I took the plunge a week ago and have to add a warning to other newbies. This stuff can be addictive. I've found myself at the computer for hours at a time. I'm going to have to limit this time to go out and meet people so that I won't be a newbie forever.

Thanks for the support and encouragement.
