The pros and cons of choosing to purchase a condo can be both positive and negative. Many people decide they want to live in a condo because they do not wish to deal with outside maintenance. So you would think that it is a pro to have someone else take care of mowing your lawn and getting out there in the cold weather to clear snow. It can also be a con because there is a maintenance fee required to cover this and other costs to run the Association, an additional cost.
Some of the other positives about owning a condo are that they usually are newer and less maintenance to deal with on the inside. Since condominium conversions and developments first became available in our area in the mid-1980s. In many cases, the older units are updated, partly because the owner only needs to focus on taking care of the inside; they tend to invest time and money improving them.
Some of the downside, which can also be positive, are the rules and regulations or by-laws. They are designed to keep consistency. The developer initially drafted the rules. As time goes on, the Association of which every owner is a member has a say in this and can decide to amend rules.
Living in close proximity will be a change for many. Again it can be positive or negative, and getting used to it may be an adjustment.
Condominium living is a lifestyle change for many. There is a lot to think about. Make sure you weigh your pros and cons before taking the leap.
