Is an unknown monument Monumental?

Thompson Monument

The Minot Daily News puts out a yearly publication that highlights local towns and one thing interesting about them. It's not real often I spot something new in it from year to year but I don't remember seeing this article so it really peaked my interest. I hope you can read what it says in the picture above but if you can not the main point is that this monument was dedicated back in 1925. As you can see it looks as if it's new yet today. That's the beauty of granite.

That's the beauty of granite!  Oh how I know granite Bob "RealMan" Timm ! My Dad built granite skyscrapers all over the country until he retired. We had granite everywhere in both our houses, in town and at the lake.  I used to know all the different colors of granite. Not kidding.....we had granite in our home before anybody even thought of using it in kitchens. Even our garage floor was granite - different colors of granite.  The outdoor patios were granite as were the out door tables (picnic tables) were Granite.Granite Granite Granite.  One more thing.....for fun the guys in the shop even made jewelry with granite stones.  I think I still have a beautiful bracelet.  I must go find it now!  I'll  take a photo!  And I also still have a round coffee table - and you guessed it - granite! But you never expected this comment!!

Hello Bob - while a bit of a chore on my eyes, I think I got the gist of the newspaper article you shared.  Like James Dray shares with us daily, there are many people who do some incredible things yet remain fairly unknown to the most of us.  I like hearing those stories.

Morning Bob.

Never heard of him, but I am in the "L's" so who knows if and when I will write about him and his accomplishments.

That is an amazing monument and story, Bob. I've always been a granite fan and have always had it in my kitchens.

That is a neat personal story Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker . I would think that even though granite was not a common home building material at the time it still added great value to your parents home.

Bob his main business was skyscrapers in the major cities - not homes.  We were kind of the 'freak' house with granite!!  And BTW I found the braclet and had no idea it make of silver with a beautiful granite stone with blue tints. Because of you I know will wear it after all these years!

I have to admit Michael Jacobs that while the man was impressive I was more impressed with the monument (shame on me).

I will look for it James Dray once you get to the "T's". David Thompson was quite accomplished in his life but the article left me wanting to know more about the monument itself.

That's exactly what I thought Barbara Todaro and I guess I need to ask Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker how they make a perfect sphere out of granite. I wonder how big of a rock it was before it ended up as it is today?
