Giving Thanks this Thanksgiving

Well, the year 2020 has not been so great. Remember, we have PLENTY to be THANKFUL For

 

1. Giving thanks to God our Creator for all things is what we are told to do as in:

 

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

 

Next to giving Thanks to the Lord (most important)for everything here are some other reasons to be thankful to our Creator from my perspective in Arizona:

 

2. Water in the Desert

3. Coronado Exploring Arizona 80 years before the Pilgrims arrived and giving thanks

4. Snow in the desert. It has snowed the last few years in Scottsdale believe it or not. Here I am a few years back. A simple yet pleasant surprise.

5. Our great country, the United States with its own flaws, but striving always to be better as a light on a hill. As Abraham Lincoln said in November 1863 at the memorial of the cemetery at the battle of Gettysburg Pennsylvania from July 1-3, 1863 where there were 57,225 casulties, the deadliest battle of the 5 year conflict, with those that died giving their last ounce of blood in death to end slavery in our country of the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

 

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
