Search Engines

I'm going to share with you the single easiest way to save money on pay per click advertising, and it couldn't be simpler.

Here it is - cut your Google pay-per-click campaign budget in half and sign up for Yahoo and MSN.

Has everyone forgotten that there are other search engines on this planet?

Sure, Google gets two and a half times as many searches each day as Yahoo and more than five times as many as MSN, but Google clicks are way more expensive.  Some of the keywords we use for pay per click are 10 TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE on Google than they are on MSN and Yahoo.

Unless you have an unlimited budget, you're not getting all the clicks for the keywords you're paying for now.

Wouldn't you rather get ten times the number of clicks you get on Google for the same amount of money on MSN and Yahoo?

14 Comments on Pay Per Click - How To Get More Clicks for Less Money

Have you ever checked the possibilty that a lot of Pay per click is just absoute fraud?

06/20/2008 05:57 PM by Jim Crawford ~ Atlanta Real Estate-ABR E-PRO (RE/MAX Greater Atlanta)

Jim - I'm not exactly sure what you mean.

That Google and Yahoo are inflating the number of clicks you get and billing you for them?  Or, do you mean that competitors are clicking your PPC links to deplete the budget?

I think both are fairly unlikely, but I could be wrong.  Have you been defrauded in some way?  I'd love to hear about it.

Things that make you go, HHHMMMMMM.

I guess I'll have to look into this and now wonder about the fraud.

Thanks.

MSN and Yahoo traffic tends to be lower quality.

The cost of your ads on Google is quite dependent on your quality scores.

If you write better ads and create better landing pages, you get better quality scores and your ad rates go down.

MSN or Yahoo are both players but it sure feels like Google is the powerhouse giant when it comes to online searches.

Bill - I've heard plenty of people say that Google clicks are "higher quality".

While I'm not necessarily convinced that is always the case, I would be surprised if there's a study out there that proves the additional "quality" justifies the added cost.

Your comment on landing pages and quality is quite accurate, though.  Just offering a quick cost-cutter here.

I have ads on both Google and Yahoo.  I have found that I get a lot more impressions with Yahoo as well as more clicks.  From my perspective, impressions are pretty important for establishing name recognition in your target market.  I still advertise on both, but have had more luck with Yahoo.

As I'm just now investigating this I'm glad I ran across your suggestion.

Can I chime in and just ask...How many of you are using "pay per click"?  I've considered it but haven't jumped off the ledge.  What's the ROI?

Why not use all of them. In theory the ads (Clicks) should be tracked for conversion rate and if there not making you money you shouldn't be using any of them.

Thanks to all for stopping by.

Whoever left the post above, you're right, companies/people should be using all of them.

Stacey - Good question.  How many peoplea are using PPC?
