Why isn’t my “Charming” house selling?

By
Home Stager with Midwest Staging Redesign Institute & Yours Redeisgned

There you are sitting in your comfy chair in your favorite robe and fuzzy slippers, reading the real estate section of the paper.

The door bell rings and it's prince charming (you get to name him), what do you do? Do you answer the door and let him see you with no makeup and in your beat-up robe. Do you ignore the knock (and him) and hope he will remember the address and return when you are at your best! I doubt it - even if the glass slipper only fits you and no one else, he may never come back. No happy ending!

Ever think how this little tale relates to the sale of your home? You and your family are just fine with the way your house works for the way you need to use it. The recliner is Dad's favorite, even if the color is from 1980. The rug is a little traffic worn, but you still have the dog and why replace it now. There are too many pieces of furniture in the family room, but you have 4 kids and everyone gathers there. The marks on the walls are no big deal, the new owners will most likely repaint. You are very proud of the collection of kitchen gadgets and gourmet tools you own so they cover ever inch of counter space. You do not want to stifle your children's creativity so every inch of their bedrooms are covered with their accomplishments and favorite things. You know you need to give away some stuff but why not wait till you are really packing and then sort through everything. Everyone will know you are moving and the clutter is to be expected, you are packing after all!

The door bell rings. It's the Prince charming realtor and his ‘court'. Now are you still wondering why your house has not sold?

Getting your house ready to sell goes way beyond cleaning and baking cookies for that great homey smell. Your realtor is the professional who will assist you with deciding on the best price and the best time to sell. But who do you have to help you with making your home the most beautiful and charming house in the neighborhood, the little mice and good fairy from Cinderella? I doubt it! Who will be honest and help you make changes that can impact the selling price and the time on the market? The Qualified Home Stager, these professionals are trained to use techniques and tricks to bring out the best in your home and enhance the look and feel that will make your house appeal to all those ‘Prince charming realtors and members of the court', leaving them with an emotional connection to your home. That connection, buyers seeing it as their home, dreaming of the new life that waits for them there and the possibilities, is what may, in the near future, bring in a great offer.

Don't miss your chance to be given that glass slipper (Best offer) by not being more than ready when the doorbell rings, the first time!

Hi GraceAnn - You described me in my living room!  Fuzzy slippers, too!  You are right on - great analogy.  Similar to prom night!

Many years have passed since we wallpapered together in the DuPage area...many fun, many wonderful, many learning together. So VERY glad you are so successful in your redesigned business. All is well here in Tucson, love our house..don’t do 18 ft stairwells, ceilings! So many remembrances of jobs we did together...not too much snow here. Write if you want to. Gordon came from Missouri for Mother’s Day! Golf with Rick...nice.
