Motivational Monday - Love What You Do

A friend recently shared that her son had quit yet, another job. I think it is the 3rd or 4th in the past 18 months or so. With every one, he basically, just ‘didn’t like it’ after a few weeks. He never tried to find anything at all that he liked about it. He never shared anything positive after a few short weeks at each job.

Several friends were having our weekly ‘happy hour’ together (via ZOOM) last week and one of my friends asked the mother of the son if he thought SHE (the mother) actually loved her job. My friend paused for awhile and said, “Some days, yes; other days, not so much.” She asked if her son knew that no job was perfect. I thought that was a great question - and one that my other friend explored over the weekend.


Love what you do!

That set me to pondering about loving what I do…and I always have. I believe the first reason is that I am so very thankful for a job/career. That may ‘taint’ my view but, it really is a great example and strong reason to begin your day with affirmations. Gratefulness leads to positivity throughout the day - just my opinion.

Another thing that I remember from my nursing days is that I was always paired with one or more nurses in the trauma operating room. We worked so well together because there were parts of the job that one loved and the others didn’t; we focused on what we enjoyed and the other nurses did the same. The job was always done - and the spirits were always high. That was something we needed, considering the level of stress each of these cases created.

In real estate, we procure business the way that works for US. If we don’t like one or two or ten aspects of what we do, we hire it out. I stink at photography and videography, so I always - not sometimes, ALWAYS - hire it out! When I get my pictures, videos and drone shots, I’m thrilled with them and am always excited to get them back from the photographer. That ‘excitement’ leads to more positivity which leads to even more positivity!


Loving what we do has an awful lot to do with NOT doing what we don’t like to do! If you don’t like the paperwork, hire an assistant. Have absolutely zero taste in staging? Hire a stager! These people free you up to do what you LOVE doing. When you love what you do, you do great work - and it shows in your reviews and the level of repeat and referral business that you do.

 

The only way to do great work is to love what you do.
