Sign on the Dotted Line…
In car sales, a salesman can get a whole or half sale. If you walk into the dealership looking for “Dave” but Dave is unavailable that day you can test drive with “Jim” but finalize the sale with “Dave” and the sale would be counted as a half sale for both. Unfortunately, in real estate, it does not work that way.
I’m sure we all have received those calls; someone calls because they want to see a listing today, but they already have been working with another agent who is unavailable to show it to them till tomorrow. I understand conflicting schedules can be disappointing, but I cannot work for free. So today when I received the phone call, I asked two important questions: 1. Do you have a contract with the other agent?- to which they answered no saying a friend was working with them. 2. Would you be willing to sign with me? - I was happy to show them the property but why buy the cow when you get the milk for free? The woman who called immediately said she would just have her agent show it to her tomorrow and the conversation ended.
I always hate to disappoint, but I cannot work for free and I must draw a line. If my friends would like to use me as their buyer’s agent, I would love to work with them but they have to still respect me as a realtor and sign on the dotted line.
