Livin' Jesse Clinton Style . . .

By

Today is the longest day of the yearThe Summer Solstice.  There are many folks at Stonehenge for whatever it is they do there on the Summer Solstice.  I guess anything and everything is worth celebrating?

For me, I live in the DC area, it will stay light until about 9:00 pm today.  I love that.  I know depending on your location and time zone, you may have daylight longer than 9:00.

This got me thinking about Jesse Clinton, way up there in God's country.  It stays light almost 24 hours during the summer?  Wonder how big the party is in Alaska?  Jesse . . .?  I am sure I will be corrected here soon as to the exact hours - Sorry, I have gone to look up the exact time.

As much as I like the longer days, I wonder if we could sleep through it all?  Maybe there is a big market for those eye cover thingyies that Thurston Howell III used to wear?  I bet the sunsets, when they happen are breathtaking.  If you haven't, check out Jesse's blog- I suggest you go there now.  Not only will you learn with great humor, Jesse has some really great photos of the breathtaking sunsets in Alaska.

Where ever you are celebrate your Summer Solstice in style!!

Audrey, a couple of summers ago, I was on the west coast of Ireland, and it was dark between about 1 and 3 am.  It was hard to sleep, because I'm used to getting up with the sun.  I'd do badly in Alaska.

Audrey - Is it a coincidence that you referred to Thurston Howell III?  That is actually my nickname for Jesse.  No, I am not joking.  Check it out:

Patricia, I have enough trouble sleeping, but think it would really neat to see the summers way up north.  Not sure how I would do if I lived there day in and day out!!

Audrey, I don't think the constant daylight would bother me.  My internal clock has been broke forever.  I do my best sleeping when I get to take an afternoon nap for 3 or 4 hours.  LOL.

Audrey- I have een in several areas where the sun is out way longer than what I have known growing up.  I like the summer when it is out longer for selling land, ecause then people have much longer to actually "see" it :)

Audrey, it is interesting when its light all day and night, took some time to get use to when we were touring Alaska.

Thurston reporting in.... :)  We've been having 24 hour sunlight for a while now... it's cloudy and raining today so it won't feel like the longest day of the year.  As for dealing with the daylight... I love it because we can go and do at all hours in the summer but... when it's time to go to sleep I wish I had a giant OFF switch.  Since I don't we have heavy insulated curtains in the bedrooms.  Close those puppies and it looks like the inside of a horses ___. haha  We have day/night shades in the MH but they still let light through so I do wear a mask when we're traveling.

Now, where's Lovey and why is my martini glass empty???

Hi, I am back - been with Mom all day!!  We had a good time.

Bob, You sound like my husband, on vacation afternoon nap is a must!!

Kathy, I love real estate in the summer.  You can work and actually see the homes during the week after work and save some weekend time for the family :)

Duane, I would love to see Alaska - especially in the summer.  You know it is weird my husband and I were in London in the winter and it got dark at 4:30 in the afternoon and that was difficult for me to get used to??

Robert, I don't think I could sleep through all of the light?  I would have to have those eye thingies.

Carole, Jesse is so much fun.  He is so sensible in his tongue in cheek way.  He has some really entertaining posts.  Besides that, he is a really great guy!

Thurston, Can you believe Jason and I brought up Thurston in one week unbeknownst to each other?  I think you are branded!!  Hey, I think that title sounds like the title of a country western CD??

Here's a refill on your martini . . .

Ah, thank you my dear... :)

That was odd you both came up with Thurston... but as they say, great minds think alike.  A new blogging persona may have just been born.

Hi Audrey...Having lived in Alaska briefly, I found the long days of summer much more to my liking than the dark days of winter.  I guess you just have to store up those sunny days and remember them when it is dark, dark, dark.

Kathleen

P.S.  I promise not to take a sip of Jesse's drink.

Jesse, I think you wear Thurston well ;)

Kathleen, so true - I forget about the dark winters.  Oh, I think that would bother me?  I hate when daylight savings time gets set back here, I dont' think I could deal with darkness all the time. Thanks for reminding me.  Kathleen, I can get you your own cocktail too, what every you fancy  ;0)
