What does green mean to me? Let me start by stating that I am all for the Environment and always researching ways that I can make a difference. living in Florida, my first idea was conceived during a Hurricane how to Utilize Wind Power. I imagined having this wind power system that connect to the outside of my Hurricane Shutters that would supply electricity during and after the hurricanes by storing electricity to a bank of batteries in additional this system could be used by exercise equipment during the rest of the year, not only would I get a get workout but I would generate some hard earned currency. I found this group http://www.awea.org/and did a lot of research but found that Florida was not the Idea place for wind power devices. I then started to research solar power thinking this is a no Brainier with the sun shinning over 300 days a year the whole state of Florida should be powered by the sun http://www.solarelectricpower.org/ Unfortunately Solar power is still very expensive and not effective with small panels. So what can an average person do?

Mitchell, Did you listen to Living on Earth (NPR) today? Basically they said some of the same things you did. Sort of dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. One of the panelists came down on the size of the most recent technology. For instance the CFL's have mercury in them, it takes a coal powered plant to produce that mercury and when the bulbs burn out the mercury should be recycled or deal with in the proper manner. But in the mean time we are all being encouraged to buy them because they do save energy.
