It's 10:30am here in Altadena, Southern California and the temperature has already hit 92 degrees.  I have a big day ahead of me...a birthday tea with some lady friends of mine and then I'm working at the Christmas Tree Lane Association booth at the Juneteenth Festival at Farnsworth Park.  Tomorrow we're having church "on the lawn" where I'll be singing (and sweating) and then I'll be showing proerties in the afternoon.  I for one, can't stand sweating, but I know it's inevitable. My husband, a contractor, is used to it and can't see why I can't stand the heat so much...guess it's ok for men to sweat!  How do you keep from looking like a Sweaty Betty and remain professional?

Ugh!

Ugh!

Get yourself some of those bands that you stick in the freezer and then wear around your neck (or wherever).

I love the heat!  I do not like winter at all.  I don't like to be cold. I love to be warm.  Maybe you will adjust.  Buy some appropriate summer clothes.  Good luck adjusting.

I hear you Linda.  I am in Santa Monica and already it is in the high 80s.  It use to be that you did not need air conditioning in Santa Monica but this is no longer the case it seems.  I hope this heat wave is not an indicator of what this summer has in store for us.  I have a baby shower to go to and I think it is outside...  drink lots of water....I will never get use to it.  I hate extreme heat...

Hi Linda, I couldn't help but notice the title of your post lol. I don't keep from looking like a sweaty Betty but I don't mind it at all, being happiest when it's 95 and humid (I don't even have a/c in my home).  Now you might say yeah right, you live in Cleveland LOL.  But I lived in Maryland for almost 20 years and St. Louis for two. I'll have to remember to do a post in January that says how do you ever get used to the cold!

I love Atlanta, I really do.  Even tried to get a teaching job there back in the day. What a fabulous area of the country to live in. Having said all this, I hope you have plenty of water on hand this weekend!

about as much as someone can get used to cold weather.....if we didn't have it, we would have no reference point for either cold and particularly comfortable weather.....funny picture. BTW, at least you have hair....lol

Hi Linda,

Having gone through menopause twice (once medically induced), I learned a trick or two about keeping cool (at least temperature-wise).

Here's my favorite tip: Excuse yourself and go to the restroom or the kitchen and run cold water over your inner wrists for a few minutes - it will help lower your core body temperature by a few degrees.

An ice cube run over the wrists or the back of the neck can help if you're at a picnic - beware of dribbles! Also, a wet washcloth kept in a plastic baggie in the fridge can be refreshing to hold on the back of your neck or at the inner elbows.

Don't wear a lot of foundation or makeup - it just melts off anyway! Use powder and lipstick and keep an antiperspirant deodorant in your purse to reapply when you need to.

PS: remember - perfume attracts bees.

Tie your hair up off your neck in a ponytail or a nice french twist. Wear a floaty summer scarf around your neck (keeps the sweat from rolling down, and you can dab your temples and upper lip with the ends when nobody's looking).

If all else fails, stick your head in the freezer (excuse: just looking for the ice - lol!).

Hope that helps a little!
