Thanks for the tips.  I have been wanting to start shooting some videos of listings and posting them on various sites.  Do you have some recommendations of sites to host and post on?

Thanks in advance...

As a buyer, I can attest to everything you've said as being an absolute fact.  I clicked the link to see your sample tour and it is fantastic.  I can't tell you how many times I've scratched a house off my list due to lousy, or even no, pictures.  Since I'm considering a market hundreds of miles away, the web is my only means of compiling a list of homes to tour.  A great video presentation catches my attention and causes me to give the house serious consideration.

Regards

Stan

Fred, your presentation is outstanding!

I'm just soaking it all in! Thanks for taking the time to share!

Even though I don't have the high technology you have (yet) I can certainly apply your tips to what I do have and build from there!

Fred,

Thanks for the great tips and advice. I've been planning on creating some video tours for about a year and finally took the plunge and did my first one just over a week ago - view it here. This listing doesn't have the best appeal but I did the best I could with it. I found your post after searching for some tips on improving and really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll be incorporating your suggestions in my next video!

Fred,

You seem to be the guru.  I just went on my first video shoot expedition for a trial with my tripod and new HD camcorder.  Boy do I suck.  My tripod is not smooth, and I panned too fast.  Like you said, constant learning and improvement.

I was wondering if you could recommend the best tripod for under $150.  I have the Sony HDR-SR7 and would like to think I can get some good shots with my camera and wide angle lens.

Thanks in advance.

Pete:  Looks good... It's so easy on a Mac, huh?  LOL  Windows people will never know the secret...

Adam:  You just want to get a VIDEO tripod.  The heads are different and you want a fluid head, which helps with the smoother pans.  You can get a very nice one for about $100-$125.  Check BHPhoto.com - they always have good prices.

A lot of the cheaper ones are made for (and work fine for ) still photography, but the panning feature doesn't work smoothly.
And you have to pan VERY slowly, especially if you're converting to Flash.  Flash doesn't process movement well at all, which is why I do mine in QuickTime.  Since I do walk thrus with a steadicam, there is a lot of movement, and Flash bites if you're moving much (it's good for slow pans or talking heads though).

HiFred.......I have just recently completed my first Real Estate Video and was wondering if you could take the time to critique it for me.

My website is not completed yet, but I have this first shoot on it for you to see. I hope to get it just right as Real estate video is not big in Canada yet, so I want to get in on the ground floor and roll from there.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gord
